  1. Changes in NRPP Device and Proficiency Elements Special thanks to the DPT Task Force and the NRPP Policy Advisory Board for their hard work! 2018 International Radon Symposium

  2. DEVICE SPECIFIC TRAINING Measurement professionals to successfully complete supplemental training specific to the device they declare they will utilize Applies to individuals utilizing all devices, including passive devices provided by NRPP certified labs Exception: Where a device specific training course is not available, an exemption can be administratively provided, but in that case . Passage of DPT would be required for both initial & renewal certification when using an analytical device regardless of type No prohibition against manufacturer/lab developing course covering multiple devices of similar manufacture (i.e. different types of electrets; different iterations of the same basic monitor 2018 International Radon Symposium

  3. Manufacturer/Laboratory Requirement to Develop a Device-Specific Training for New/Existing Users May be developed & administered by manufacturers/labs or via sub- contract Manufacturer/lab would NOT certify anyone - but verify that persons completing their device training have been exposed to sufficient info to allow them to be proficient Creation of device-specific training to be facilitated by manufacturer and submitted to NRPP for CE approval Must provide questions to NRPP to be utilized as construct for NRPP/Online administered quizzes to be taken at initial and renewal 2018 International Radon Symposium

  4. Course Format and Elements-All Device-Specific Training Recommended to be a minimum 2-hours in any of following formats: Classroom, Distance-based, On-Demand (archived), Live webinar Must have quiz administered to assess competency (not proctored) User to demonstrate ability to generate a report method to be a function of course format, with the following suggestions: Distance-Based (On Demand or Live Webinar) Submittal of test conducted at user s residence for review by Trainer/Manufacturer prior to provision of course certificate Classroom Demonstrate to instructor ability to start, stop test and generate report 2018 International Radon Symposium

  5. Suggested Minimum Course Content Criteria QA/QC requirements for that device QA Plan specific to device and how handled. Environmental Factors that influence it Interferences (e.g. EMF, line spikes, battery loss, etc.) Detecting Tampering How to initiate test How to stop test How to generate report Interpreting unique results How calibration is to be done Interpreting other data collected such as temp, humidity, Barometric Pressure, etc. Device or tech specific needs to compensate for dynamic/secular equilibrium, how to do it; how to handle 12-hour period if building not closed prior to arrival Proper storage and handling Data input for cloud-based reporting How to tell when device has malfunctioned Proper storage 2018 International Radon Symposium

  6. Revision of Continuous Radon Monitor DPT Requirements Initial Certification Application: Passage of DPT to be listed for that device Completion of NRPP Approved Device-Specific Training for each type of CRM to be utilized by the applicant Pass a device-specific quiz administered through NRPP s online renewal system Non-proctored, Short quiz (~20 multiple choice questions) 75% device specific, 25% general test protocol (such as placement criteria) Pass Score: 75% Repeatable until passed (Online) Answers provided after passage 2018 International Radon Symposium

  7. Revision of Continuous Radon Monitor DPT Requirements (continued) Certification Renewal Application: Would not require repeat of DPT Would not require applicant to repeat NRPP Approved Device-Specific Training previously completed Individuals currently listed with a particular CRM who haven t completed appropriate NRPP Approved Device-Specific Training would have to prior to next certification renewal if available If appropriate NRPP Approved Device-Specific Training is not available - a repeat DPT would be required Periodic DPTs to be included as a recommendation for inclusion in a QA/QC plan 2018 International Radon Symposium

  8. MANUFACTURER DPT REQUIREMENTS To maintain device approval, manufacturers are to submit devices to NRPP- approved secondary chamber for a single-blind performance test Frequency for Currently Manufactured or Supported Devices (e.g. calibration, tech support) Minimum frequency: Semi-Annual (once every 6 months) Minimum of one device per DPT After component or algorithm change Must be devices manufactured after previous DPT (i.e. advancing serial numbers) If manufacturer chooses not to support a device (that is does not submit semiannual DPTs and/or calibrate devices or develop device specific training), the NRPP listing of the device can be maintained by the user of the device (provided it is an approved device) passing initial and renewal DPTs . 2018 International Radon Symposium

  9. MANUFACTURER DPT REQUIREMENTS In case of failure, manufacturer must resubmit & pass DPT within 30 days or at the next available window If second DPT fails, the listing for the NRPP device will be suspended until the issue can be resolved by passing a DPT. In cases where a listed device is no longer supported by a manufacturer but is used by an individual, the individual may continue to use the device provided they successfully pass a biennial DPT prior to subsequent renewals. In cases where device is no longer manufactured, but manufacturer still supports it, the manufacturer would submit latest version for semiannual DPT. 2018 International Radon Symposium

  10. Requirements for Secondary Chambers Approved to Perform DPTs To notify both applicant and device manufacturer of DPT failure To protect client confidentiality, name of applicant to be withheld from manufacturer Applicant to be advised to contact manufacturer if manufacturer exists Compile & provide to NRPP on semiannual basis a report of DPT Pass-Fail rates, containing: Device Type Applicant ID to indicate repeat Pass or fails Date of DPT pass or fail. Failure reason if known 2018 International Radon Symposium

  11. In consideration for extending the DPT revision to other devices such as EICs or WL devices, a review will be initiated within 18 months from promulgation of this policy and will be based upon additional data from Secondary Chambers assessing the impact of device specific training on user DPT performance as well as manufacturer DPTs. 2018 International Radon Symposium

  12. The End The availability of paper applications to both initial and renewal NRPP certifications will be suspended on December 31, 2018. NRPP applications forms and documents submittals are easily and efficiently completed with our online application 2018 International Radon Symposium
