  1. CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK 2023 Elementary School Mass

  2. Greeting and Welcome As we celebrate the gift of Catholic Education we reflect on the passage from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (Romans 12: 5). With the complexities of our world and our communities today, we can stray from the peace that comes when we are in communion with each other. In our unity, we celebrate our diversity, all uniquely created by God. We read in Romans that if one member suffers, we all suffer. Unity brings us to peace and understanding. Let us celebrate our faith, giving thanks to God from whom all good things come. Please join in the opening hymn, We are Many, We are One

  3. Opening Hymn: We are Many, We are One

  4. GREETING In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen. The Lord be with you. R. And with your Spirit.

  5. OPENING PRAYER Lord our God, the eternal source of love, through the Holy Spirit you move human hearts so that we grow in peace and understanding. With faith, we ask you for the divine gift of unity. Give us the courage to overcome misunderstanding. Help us to enter into honest and respectful dialogue. Keep us from being indifferent. Soften our hearts. Open our ears. Help us to build bridges rather than walls. We ask this through Jesus our Lord. Amen.

  6. First Reading: Romans 12:3-11

  7. A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

  8. Romans 12:3-11 We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the encourager, in encouragement; the giver, in sincerity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal; be ardent in spirit; serve the Lord. This is the Word of the Lord R: Thanks be to God.

  9. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 133 R. How good and how pleasant it is when people live together in unity. A song of King David. How good and how pleasant it is, when people live together as one! R. How good and how pleasant it is when people live together in unity.

  10. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 133 Like fine oil on the head, and running down upon the beard. Upon the beard of Aaron, upon the collar of his robe. R. How good and how pleasant it is when people live together in unity.

  11. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 133 Like rain coming down upon the mountains of Zion. There the LORD has given a blessing, for life evermore! R. How good and how pleasant it is when people live together in unity.

  12. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Alleluia, Alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. Alleluia.

  13. PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit. A reading from the Holy Gospel According to John. R. Glory to you, Lord

  14. GOSPEL: John 10:6-16

  15. GOSPEL: John 10:6-16 Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So again Jesus said to them, Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.

  16. GOSPEL: John 10:6-16 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because the hired hand does not care for the sheep.

  17. GOSPEL: John 10:6-16 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
