Elementary School Mass
Greeting and Welcome
As we celebrate the gift of Catholic Education we reflect on
the passage from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans
(Romans 12: 5). With the complexities of our world and our
communities today, we can stray from the peace that comes
when we are in communion with each other. In our unity, we
celebrate our diversity, all uniquely created by God. We read
in Romans that if one member suffers, we all suffer. Unity
brings us to peace and understanding. Let us celebrate our
faith, giving thanks to God from whom all good things come.

OPENING PRAYER
Lord our God, the eternal source of love, through the
Holy Spirit you move human hearts so that we grow in
peace and understanding. With faith, we ask you for
the divine gift of unity. Give us the courage to
overcome misunderstanding. Help us to enter into
honest and respectful dialogue. Keep us from being
indifferent. Soften our hearts. Open our ears. Help us
to build bridges rather than walls.
We ask this through Jesus our Lord.

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone

We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us:
prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the
teacher, in teaching; the encourager, in encouragement; the

what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one
another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal; be ardent in spirit;
serve the Lord.

Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not
understand what he was saying to them. So again Jesus said
to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the
sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters
by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find
pasture.
GOSPEL: John 10:6-16
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came
that they may have life, and have it abundantly. “I am
the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his
life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the
shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf
coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the
wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand
runs away because the hired hand does not care for the
sheep.

Lord, as we face the joys, challenges and struggles of life, please
remind us that we are not alone and we have the support of our
family and community. We share all of these joys and challenges
with those around us. We thank you for blessing us with your
wisdom, courage, knowledge, and understanding. May your
Grace continue to guide us so we can help each of our students
reach their fullest potential.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
