The models D35, D40 and D45 are all powered by naturally aspirated, parent-bore design, diesel engines. The D35 utilizes the model N843L, a 101.1 cubic inch (1.65L), 3-cylinder powerhouse. The 4-cylinder model N844, displacing 121.7 cubic inches (2.0L) is used in the model D40; and the model N844L at 135.2 cubic inches (2.2L) is used in the D45. All engines are rated at 2600 RPM. 20006509 12 Talk About Gutty Engines. Torque is what provides the pulling power when a tractor gets into those tough conditions and these tractors have plenty of torque at lower engine speeds. Along with peak torque, torque rise is an important indicator of a tractor s guts . Torque rise is the increase in torque from rated power to peak torque. With torque rise in the range of 22%-23.5%, these tractors have the guts to handle those heavy loads without the need to downshift providing more convenience and productivity. 30997549 13 Buckle-Up Driveline. All three models feature parent-bore design (constructed of Copper Chrome alloy cast iron) which provides: 1 Greater overall strength and rigidity of the engine since the cylinders are an integral part of the block. With the cylinders cast as part of the block, there is no need for sleeves or sleeve seals. This eliminates the risk of engine damage due to seal failure and accompanying oil contamination caused by coolant leakage. By casting the cylinders as part of the block, uniform wall thickness is obtained. Full- length jackets, 1, permit coolant to act directly on the cylinder walls providing more uniform cooling. D35, D40, D45 TRACTORS Indirect Injection. The engines used on the models D35, D40 and D45 feature indirect fuel injection with a uniquely designed pre-combustion chamber. New Bosch-type injection pumps with CTD (compact timing control device) have yielded reductions in noise levels and smoke emissions while improving fuel efficiency. 30997559 18 Bosch-Type, In-Line Injection Pumps with com- pact timing control device (CTD) are used on all Class III engines. They yield optimal performance by varying the timing of fuel delivery based on engine RPM and loading. The pump (cartridge type) is an integral part of the engine eliminating the need for a separate oil reservoir resulting in easier mainte- nance.
