immediately after Independence
It branched out of ‘Economics’
It was primarily considered for the required
qualification for employments in financial
institutions like banks
After 1970 Commerce graduates –B. Com.
were on high demand in employment markets,
till 1985.
BBA was introduced after 1985 as parallel to B.
Com.
MBA was introduced in India since 1979 by

Commerce Education was introduced in India immediately after Independence It branched out of Economics It was primarily considered for the required qualification for employments in financial institutions like banks After 1970 Commerce graduates B. Com. were on high demand in employment markets, till 1985. BBA was introduced after 1985 as parallel to B. Com. Development of Commerce Education There were only a few Universities offering commerce programmes until 1985 M. Com. was a rare commodity and was offered only by a selected institutions then M. Diversification of Commerce Education B.Com. was a traditional programme at U.G. level The UGC still approves diversification of commerce programmes only with the common nomenclature called B.Com. with any of its branch of knowledge So, there are now many institutions to offer B.Com.
