HOW TO CALCULATE A NURSING GPA NURSING STUDENTS MUST LEARN TO CALCULATE THEIR NURSING GPA Created by Academic Advising Services of Northwestern State University of Louisiana February 2016
GPA REQUIREMENTS (BSN) Please refer to your University Catalog for a comprehensive list of requirements for admission, progression, dismissal, and graduation (http://nursing.nsula.edu/assets/BSN- Docs/APDG-Fall-2015-2.pdf ) One very important admission requirement involves grade point average (GPA). Note that a minimum GPA of 2.7 is required in all courses for the degree. Students must also earn a minimum grade of C in all required biology, chemistry, mathematics, and nursing courses. Sally Mae hopes to formally apply to the BSN program within the next semester or two. The next slide shows Sally Mae s fall and spring grades.

To the right is an example of the curriculum worksheet for BSN students. Sally s fall and spring grades have been entered in the appropriate spaces *Notice the total hours, total quality points, and GPA at the bottom left corner.
COMMENTS 1. Note the D grade in Chemistry 1070. Per the University Catalog a minimum grade of C is required of all biology, chemistry, mathematics and nursing courses. 2. Note the power of a 1-credit class. The student earned an A grade in University Studies 1000. This A grade, although only from a 1-credit class, generated 4 total quality points (which is greater than the Chemistry 1070 quality points earned).
