Synopsis
•
Urgent GP referral : 77 years old male; Tenesmus; PR Bleeding
•
Palpable soft mass per rectum
•
Colonoscopy : Malignant rectal tumour and large rectal mass
(malignant) occupying most of the rectum extending proximally.
•
Path : CD34, CD117, vimentin, CD99 + DOG1 positive. KIT
c.1679T>A p.(Val560Asp) exon 11 variant detected consistent with GIST
•
Outcome : Pelvic exenteration
10cm well defined pelvic mass with a definite extraluminal location displacing but not
invading the rectum. No adenopathy. The mass is heterogeneously hyperintense on T2
weighted imaging and demonstrates central diffusion restriction.
