School-assessed Coursework Area of Study 3 Comparison of artists, their practice and their artworks

  8. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Big Planning Ideas Inspired by the practices of artists and their role in society, students develop their individual art practice, and communicate ideas and meaning using their preferred materials, techniques and processes. This course is tailored to student choice, and students are free to choose any material or art form that they have access to.

  9. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Big Planning Ideas Students will continue to experiment with the art form they selected in Unit 3 Outcome 2 as they continue to develop and refine their idea and their skill. They are not, however limited to this material or artform and are able to continue to explore a range of materials in any artform. Teachers are encouraged to provide the students with the opportunity to visit a range of exhibition spaces to view diverse art and different contexts and ways of presenting artworks as inspiration for their own artworks.

  10. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Big Planning Ideas Area of Study 1 and 2 are taught concurrently and assessed together at the end of Unit 4. Critique At the commencement of Unit 4, students should conduct a critique in which they present the work that they completed in Unit 3 Outcome 2. In response to the feedback from this critique they should refocus their Body of Work. They use their preferred method to reflect on decisions and directions. This can include annotated sketches, photographs and trials as they document their use of the Creative Practice.

  11. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Critique As the critique in Unit 4 is the presentation of the Body of Work for final feedback and resolution, students should review their documentation to assist them in structuring their critique. Students focus on the further refinement of their: personal visual responses and how they are communicating Ideas and meanings materials, techniques and processes in selected art forms visual language the use of the Interpretive Lenses

  12. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Responding to the Feedback Students should reflect on the Body of Work from Unit 3 and consider what they need to refine and resolve their Body of Work. What ideas have emerged? What techniques and processes have been employed successfully and what do I need to develop and refine further? What trials or responses have not been extended. What requires improvement? How can I better achieve my intention? Are there ways of expanding on my ideas or is a change in direction required?

  13. Art Creative Practice Unit 4 Area of Study 1: Documentation and critique of the Creative Practice On completion of this unit the student should be able to document their use of Creative Practice and present a critique to inform the refinement and resolution of a Body of Work. Outcome 1 Unit 4 Area of Study 1 and 2 are linked and students should consider the direction, resolution and refinement of their Body of Work using components of the Creative Practice to scaffold their inquiry. Learning structure ideas The Interpretive Lenses can be used to direct their inquiry and to research additional artists and artworks that will inform their practice. Students must consider the inclusion of additional artworks and artists, and how these will expand their ideas, their practice, and refine and resolve their Body of work. The students may use the questions from the Interpretive Lenses to evaluate their progress. The Interpretive Lenses can also structure the critique. Area of Study 1 is the opportunity for students to revisit their documentation and evaluation of their practice and how they are communicating ideas using visual language. They can consider how they will structure the documentation and evaluation leading up to the presentation of their Body of Work. A series of questions based on the Interpretive Lenses and components of the Creative Practice will assist them to document their practice
