  2. Poets Background This poem, was written by William Wordsworth. Born: 7 April 1770 Died:23 April 1850 Having one of the greatest image in the Romantic Age. Best known for his Lyrical Ballads(1798) in collaboration with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He was married to Mary Hutchinson. His uncles took care of him. laureate.

  3. Poets Background o In later life Wordsworth abandoned his radical ideas and became a patriotic, conservative public man. In 1843 he succeeded Robert Southey (1774-1843) as England's poet.

The Poem: Stanza 1 She was a Phantom of delight When first she gleamed upon my sight; A lovely Apparition, sent To be a moment's ornament; Her eyes as stars of Twilight fair; Like Twilight's, too, her dusky hair; But all things else about her drawn From May-time and the cheerful Dawn; A dancing Shape, an Image gay, To haunt, to startle, and waylay.

  6. Explanation The poem starts with telling about a woman who is according to the author is Phantom of Delight. This image of woman is portrayed b the poet to present a woman full of enthusiasm having unreal quality that we generally don t see in common women. Further she is told as a lovely apparition also. The poet the experience when he first time come across with her lady love she was very catchy to come into attention anyone. Even in those eyes also who are not paying head toward her.
