  1. Aledo Middle School 8thGrade Registration

  2. Current Schedule School hours are 8:40-4:00 Doors Open at 8:00 AM students sit in Bearcat Den before school 7 class periods approximately 50 minutes each 3 Lunches - 30 minutes each 8thGrade Athletics is 7thperiod with team practice after school Physical Exams must be turned in to the coaches prior to the first day of school (Students can not tryout without a physical-per UIL)

  3. How to Decide: Pre-AP or On Level Courses Pre-AP courses are designed to prepare students for college. Students who are highly motivated, responsible, like to be challenged, and have excellent attendance are good candidates for Pre-AP. Pre-AP classes are open enrollment for any student who have successfully completed the proper pre- requisite course and passed the corresponding STAAR assessment. Advanced level and G/T students are served through Pre-AP See pages 10-13 in the AMS Course Description Book for detailed information specific to courses.

  4. Schedule Changes Students may ask for a schedule change from Pre-AP to on-level courses until the last day of school, June 1, 2018. All changes must be in writing and submitted to Denise Carpenter, PEIMS Secretary. Academic Action Plans -After the first day of school, students may change from a Pre-AP course to the on- level version of the same course AFTER creating and submitting an Academic Action Plan. The plan must be signed by the student, teacher, parent, and principal. Students will be held responsible for making up all knowledge and skills covered in the on-level class prior to the move.

  5. Electives 8thgrade students can choose 3 electives. Athletics and PE are considered electives as an 8thgrader. Non-high school credit electives are: Art (year 1 or year 2) Art Intro to Technical Drawing Athletics Band Choir (year 1 or year 2) Film as a Literary Genre PE Theatre Arts (year 1 or year 2) Student Aide/Class Aide (application required) Newly enrolled 8thgrade students will be required to take one semester of Technology and one semester of Exploring College and Careers.

  6. High School Credit Courses Algebra I* American Sign Language Art I Journalism* P.E. Adventure/Outdoor Education **Fees Required Principles of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Principles of Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Spanish I Theatre I Students must meet the 90% attendance requirement set forth by Aledo High School in order to receive credit. Grade received will start GPA on High School transcript. *Must meet requirements

  9. Endorsements All 8th grade students must choose an endorsement pathway on their registration form. Please refer t o the Course Description Book to with your decision. Your endorsement pathway CAN be changed in high school. Endorsement areas: Arts and Humanities Business & Industry Multidisciplinary Studies Public Services STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Law & Public Safety Course sequences for high school endorsement pathways are included in the Aledo Middle School Course Description Book on pages 21-26.

  10. Things to Remember Registration forms are due Friday, January 19th You will register online during your Technology or CCR class You will not be allowed to register without a completed registration form, including parent signatures. Last opportunity to change elective choice for the 2017-2018 school year will be June 1, 2018 All other schedule changes including moving out of PAP and in to regular classes must be made before the first day of the 2018 school year. Your choices are a full-year commitment.
