Pass ALL (9) third-year clerkships Graduation Requirements Pass ONE 2-week elective (linked with Peds) Pass TWO Sub-internships (4-weeks each) Pass FIVE 4-week electives (see elective criteria) Pass ONE PoM 4: Transition to Residency Pass OSCE Complete the FRCT Scholarly Project Take Step 2 Complete Exit Interview with Financial Aid

  6. Graduation Requirements Of the FIVE 4-week electives No more than TWO can be pre-clerkship electives At least TWO electives must be on campus (i.e. must be in the catalog)

  7. Graduation Requirements At least ONE elective or SI in Internal Medicine At least ONE elective must have an ambulatory designation At least ONE clinical rotation, in the course catalog in the semester of graduation All designations are noted by tags in the course catalog

  8. Graduation Requirements PoM 4 Transition to Residency April 2024 keep as a hold on schedule March 31-April 25, 2024 Cannot book with another rotation *TTR/Surgery timing TBD (may be Mar or Apr)

Pre-Scheduling All clerkships must be scheduled BEFORE the Advanced Clinical Phase (M4) scheduling begins ** Review your portfolio schedule ** Placed as early in your schedule as possible Assigned by lottery All clerkships (except EM/Anes) must be completed before Step 2 May schedule electives/SIs before (be aware of pre-requisites)

Outstanding Clerkships Completed Initial Scheduling Process SubI #1/Key Rotation Jan 29 Feb 2 - Done in phases - Complete a survey for each phase Ambulatory Feb 6-9 - Best fit for the class, not first-come-first-served - Ability to adjust your schedule before final ( swap ) Electives Feb 20-23 - Must have sfirst, Like to s later Swap - No special approval electives during this process opportunity SubI #2 Mar 4-8 - All remaining scheduling through Drop/Add Dates listed are survey start/stop times; schedules will be posted within one week of survey closing

  12. How to Plan for USMLE Step 2? Must take Step 2 CK before 4/25/2025 to graduate In reality, must have score for residency applications (e.g., 9/25/2024 tentatively) Strongly consider taking CK in May/Jun/Jul if your schedule can accommodate *2024 Match Cycle Must take Step 2 by August 28th to get scores back

External (Away) Rotations External Rotations are NOT required for all Student may choose to do away rotations for multiple reasons Jan 4, 2024 - External Rotation Workshop Certain specialties they are required: EM Certain specialties they are expected: PM&R, Child Neuro (no home programs) Dermatology, Neuro Surg, Ophtho, Ortho, OTO, Plastics, Urology

Most schools/programs schedule their away rotations through VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities) You will receive authorization for VSLO in January All students must review a short module and attest to expected practices to gain access to VSLO UMSOM Contact: Stephanie Lee Schools not participating in VSLO follow instructions on webpages Regardless, you MUST register with UMSOM to get credit!   17. OK, but how do Aways work anyway? THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT You MUST register with UMSOM before the rotation to get credit! UMSOM Contact: Natalie Summerville IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER with UMSOM You will NOT receive credit toward graduation It will NOT be on your transcript You are NOT covered for Malpractice insurance You WILL receive a professionalism citation, which may be noted on your MSPE

Scheduling Interview Months Students may leave one (or two) unscheduled months during peak interview times Typically, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan Discuss ideal months with OSA/Department mentors Do NOT schedule Away rotations and avoid SubIs during interview months if possible Some leeway for missed days for interviews, at discretion of course director, must be discussed in advance
