The State of Sanctioned Softball Local Leagues Declining . . . Yes Nearly a loss of 200 adult teams in Michigan from 2015 to 2016 Tournaments Declining . . . Yes Tournament Participation is down on 31% in the last 5 years Umpire registration Declining . . . Yes Average age of umpires is increasing. Less opportunity, more issues Youth Travel Leagues Rising . . . Yes
The Question is Why? USA Softball of Michigan has surveyed league and tournament teams since 2008 and asked this question. Time Cost Competition
Marketing Your Local League Traditional marketing no longer works Protecting your Brand Make it Personal Testimonials are huge Competitor Creeping How are they getting new teams/umpires Don t be afraid to work WITH them (segmenting the softball world no one wins!)
