Misconceptions I don t have any students with a disability this doesn t apply to me Don t we have a department for that? I worry some of these students with disabilities are just trying to get a free ride
Understanding and Patience Many different kinds of disabilities Visual Auditory Physical Learning Mental Health Many disabilities exist on a spectrum Legally blind does not mean completely blind Deaf does not mean they cannot hear anything
Universal Design Try to make everything accessible from the start Large print on documents High contrast colour schemes This is a chart that compares vision without impairment with three types of colour blindness
Universal Design Cont Describe Images and Videos Explore giving all media content Closed Captions Have several Options for viewing content Consider using the King s OWL 2020 Templates Try to use text books that are available online or come in an e-text format Avoid using videos that have strobing of flashing
Flexibility There may or may not be in class components this semester Multiple ways of accessing content Commentary alongside readings A-synchronous designs are best
