Meet the Teacher October 2, 2020 Ms. Askew Ms. Cousar Ms. Williamson
Welcome to 1st Grade! We are so excited to work with you and welcome you to 1st grade this school year! We look forward to working with each and everyone of you and hope to make the very best of this year s learning experience!
Expectations Students are expected to report to school daily, be prepared for learning and to put in their very best effort. Attendance will be taken, and students must complete all missed assignments. Assignments will be posted on Canvas. Student assignments and homework will be graded. We are expecting students to follow classroom rules and procedures, while also being mindful of our school PBIS expectations.
Classroom Rules Be on your very best behavior! Be ready to learn, look and listen. Do your very best! Remain respectful to each other and follow your Eagle expectations. Have all your materials ready for learning. Ask questions. Participate! Have fun learning!
ClassDojo ClassDojo is a form of communication that is used schoolwide. If you have not already signed up, please do so at your earliest convenience. If can be accessed through your cellphone, tablet and a laptop. We will be using ClassDojo to send out important information as well as to be a contact from you to your child s teacher. Therefore, it is vital that you read all messages.
Reading Core Knowledge (CKLA) We will be using CKLA again this school year for our reading program. CKLA is broken into two parts. There is a Listening and Learning component, which is our read aloud and a Skills component that addresses phonics, grammar, fluency, sight words, reading and writing comprehension.

Heggerty Heggerty is a new program that we will be using this school year that addresses Phonological and Phonemic Awareness and Phonics.
Math Expectations We will be continuing with Eureka Math this school year. Eureka Math (Math concepts addressed are: addition, subtraction, greater than / less than, shapes, time, word problems, data & graphing and measurements using a wide variety of math strategies). Counting and Numbers Numbers 1 120 EOY Writing, saying, counting (no reversals)
Writing Nouns (Common and Proper Nouns) Pronouns Verbs Complete sentences Handwriting Left to right writing
How to Help at Home Reading for 30 minutes Sight Words Writing Comprehension
Covid in the Classroom Students will sit 6ft apart and maintain Social Distance. Movement will be limited. Students must wear a mask. Mask breaks will be given. Lunch will be held in the classroom. Student s are not allowed to use the water fountain, therefore, can bring their own water. Students are not allowed to share books, supplies, etc. Students must Social Distance during recess. Book bags and coats will remain at their seats. Student must bring their ipads charged daily.
