Learning outcome: End of lesson the students will able to transform from complex to simple.
Follow the examples & rules: Rules : Complex: Though / Although + Subject + verb + object (extension), + Subject + verb + object ( extension ) . Simple: In spite of + possessive form of subject ( pronoun) + verb+ing + object (extension), + Subject + verb + object (extension). Examples: 1. Complex: Though he is poor, he is honest. Simple: In spite of his being poor, he is honest. Or, In spite of being poor, he is honest. Or, In spite of his poverty, he is honest. Or, In spite of poverty, he is honest. 2. Complex: Although he has vast property, he leads a simple life. Simple: In spite his having vast property, he leads a simple life. Or, In spite of having vast property, he leads a simple life. 3. Complex: Though she smokes 40 cigarettes a day, she is quite fit. Simple: In spite of her smoking 40 cigarettes a day, she is quite fit. Or, In spite of smoking 40 cigarettes a day, she is quite fit. 4. Complex: Though the weather is bad, we went there. Simple: In spite of the weather being bad, we went there.
Individual work: Turn into simple : 1. Although he is rich, he is unhappy. 2. Though he is cruel, I love him. 3. Although he came last, he finished first. 4. Though he was strong, he was defeated. 5. Though he tried heart and soul , he could not pass in the examination. 6. Though the writer had willingness, he could not visit the Foyot s earlier. 7. Although he has failed twice, he will try again.
Solution: 1.In spite of his being rich, he is unhappy. 2.In spite of his being cruel, I love him. 3.In spite of his coming last, he finished first. 4.In spite of his being strong, he was defeated. 5.In spite of his trying heart and soul, he could pass in the examination. 6. In spite of the writer having willingness, he could not visit the Foyot s earlier. 7.In spite of his having failed twice, he will try again.
Home Work: Turn into simple: 1. Although the traffic was bad, I arrived on time. 2. Although Bangladesh has natural resources, it has a good number of manpower. 3. Though he is low-paid employee, his responsibility is great. 4. Though cricket is costly game, people of all classes enjoy playing it. 5. Though the bird was innocent, the ancient mariner shot it one day. 6. Although I tell him to be quiet, he takes no notice of it. 7. I love music , although I can t play musical instrument.
