  2. Help remind everyone of the original intent of the Foundation and keep the philanthropic objectives of the Foundation at the forefront of its grantmakingactivities. Info Session

  3. Jacob L. Loose Born in Greencastle, PA on June 17, 1850 Moved to Chetopa, Kansas and opened a dry goods store in the 1870s. Married Ella C. Clark in 1878 They had two children, but both died in infancy Later he established the Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company in Kansas City, Missouri which would later be known as Sunshine Biscuit, Inc. Created $25,000 endowment at Children s Mercy Hospital in 1913 Died on September 18, 1923 (73 years old) Will established the Million Dollar Charity Fund Association The first grants from the Fund were gifts of ice and milk distributed to poor and needy families.

  4. Ella C. Loose Held an annual shoe party at the Gillis Orphan s home for almost 30 years Each child would receive a new pair of shoes and a dollar bill Ella would also visit Gillis frequently to visit and play with the children. In 1923, Ella gifts the Board of Park Commissioners 80 acres which would become Loose Park Died on September 26, 1945 (85 years old) Ella was the last of the Loose family in Kansas City. The majority of her estate was turned over to the Million Dollar Charity Fund Association. The Million Dollar Charity Fund Association was changed to the Jacob L. and Ella C. Loose Foundation in 1977

Both Mr. and Mrs. Loose were very charitable Jacob was very patriotic and dedicated to Kansas City In 1916 he hired an engineering firm to design and construct the a 200 flag pole; the tallest at the time. The Star Spangled Banner, the Declaration of Independence, and the Gettysburg Address were commemorated at the base of the flag pole. Loose Park Gifted in 1923 with five conditions: the land must always remain a park the current buildings must be removed no roadways / streets in the park no monuments or statues to be constructed without permission of the trust no golf links or baseball diamonds shall be built

In keeping with the intent of Mr. and Mrs. Loose, the Loose Foundation s focus will be funding programs that support the direct delivery of human or social service to poor and needy children and families in Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri. Eligibility Programs that provide services other than human or social services are not eligible for funding and will not be considered.

  7. Requirements Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization Applicants MUST attend a Loose Foundation grant information session to be eligible to apply Applicants must demonstrate that the majority of the program s or project s clients and/or beneficiaries are residents of Jackson County and/or Kansas City, Missouri Applicants must have a Reviewed Nonprofit Search Profile Restrictions The Loose Foundation will not award grants for any component of a capital campaign, endowment campaign or annual drive The Loose Foundation will not award grants for debt reduction The Loose Foundation will not award grants to individuals; including scholarships Requirements and Restrictions

The Loose Foundation will only fund programs that support the direct delivery of human or social services to poor and needy children and families Applicants must meet all grant requirements The application should demonstrate the presence of other funding commitments for the program and exhibit the financial sustainability of the program or project Guidelines Equipment expenses will only be considered if the applicant appropriately demonstrates that the request will directly improve the organization s ability to deliver services All grants are one year grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000

The Loose Foundation received 59 applications totaling $1,119,679 in requested funding The board awarded $469,775 in total grants to 34 different organization Grants in 2017 Grant awards ranged from $3,700 to $35,000 The average grant amount was $14,500 A similar amount will be available for grantmaking in 2018
