In Kay Class, your child will engage in various topics throughout the year, such as Transport, The Seaside, and more. Attendance and punctuality are crucial, with the school day starting at 8:50 am and finishing at 3:20 pm. Routines include bringing healthy snacks, a water bottle, and following P.E. uniform guidelines.   4. Attendance and Punctuality It is greatly important that your child arrives on time and attends every day. As soon as they enter the classroom, children will take part in a morning maths or an English activity to consolidate previous learning in class. If for any reason they are absent, please let school know the reason for their absence on the first day. Attendance at Hardy Mill is very important. As a school, we monitor attendance carefully and will notify you if your child s attendance falls below national average. We thank you for your support in making sure that your child attends school every day. School day begins: 8.50am Children will enter through the main KS1 door. School day finishes: 3.20pm Children will be dismissed through the classroom door.

  5. Routines in Kay Class Healthy snacks can be brought to school to eat at morning play time. Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day. This must be taken home and washed daily. We ask that the children bring an old oversized shirt/ t-shirt from home to wear for art. Children may only bring a school book bag. No rucksacks or large bags will be allowed. Children are not to bring their own pencil case.

  6. Routines in Kay Class P.E Children must take part in PE sessions, if they cannot participate please inform your child s class teacher by letter or phone call. Please make sure all items of school uniform, P.E uniform and coats are named. Kay P.E days: Tuesdays & Thursdays On P.E days, children should come to school wearing their P.E uniform. Earrings and jewellery to be removed before coming to school on these days.

  7. Expectations in Kay Class Curriculum expectations Children are expected to do their very best in every lesson. Children are encouraged and expected to keep their handwriting neat and take pride in their presentation in all subjects.

  8. How you can help at home Homework Homework will be set weekly on Showbie. Homework will focus on the basic skills your child needs to learn during their time in Year 1. Each week children will be expected to: Practise phonics/ learn spellings Complete a maths activity Enjoy reading at home

How you can help at home Regular home reading Home school reading diaries will be sent home on the first day of school in September Kay class book changing days: Mondays & Thursdays Bug Club Available to use over the Summer The Bug Club parent guide can be found on our school website: https://www.hardymill.bolton.sch.uk/curriculum/teaching-of-reading-and-phonics If you are unsure of your child s Bug Club login details please get in touch with their class teacher.

  10. How you can help at home Maths By the end of Year 1 your child is expected to know their number bonds to 10 and 20. Spelling During the year, your child will be taught a number of different spelling rules which they are expected to learn and apply. They also need to learn the words from the Year 1 word list. This list is available on the school website.

  11. Online Safety Please continue to supervise your child whilst they are online. Treat it as you would road safety you wouldn t show them how to cross the road once and then leave them, apply the same rules on the internet reinforce online safety constantly! Please visit www.commonsensemedia.org for app and website information to check whether sites and apps are appropriate for the age of your child.

  12. Phonics Screening May 2022 Year 1 complete a reading quiz this is called the Phonics Screening Check. The results are sent off to the authority and compared with children across the country. In July you will be informed about whether your child has reached the expected level for Year 1 in their annual report.

  13. Volunteer Roles We are hoping that as school life returns to normal we will be able to plan school trips. We are always looking for additional adults to help out and if you are willing to, please let your child s class teacher know or indicate on the slip provided.
