A Holiday for Thanks What is Thanksgiving? A family praying together at Thanksgiving Some families say a toast by raising their glasses. It is a holiday to thank God for all we have. People give thanks for food. People give thanks for family. This holiday is celebrated in the fall in Canada and the US. It is on the second Monday in October in Canada. It is on the fourth Thursday in November in the US. Turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie November in the US October in Canada
The Beginning of the Holiday - The first Thanksgiving feast in the US was in the 1600s. It was in November, but not on the fourth Thursday. It came after a big harvest. When did Thanksgiving start? It only happened once in 1621. There was no feast in 1622.
