  1. No Bell Work! Please be ready to turn in your Close Read Packet from yesterday! If you turned it in YESTERDAY, you are not turning it in TODAY! Agenda Changes: No Bell Work this week. Quiz will be moved to Monday.

  2. A Cowboys Honor This is a short story about a man who loses something of great sentimental value and vows to fight it. Spur: a device with a small spike or a spiked wheel that is worn on a rider's heel and used for urging a horse forward.

  3. Assignment: Improving Test Taking Performance by using Close Read Strategies As a Group: Preview each question BEFORE you begin reading. Underline each question. There are vocabulary words in this passage: Cadence, Heirloom, Covenant. Define them in the margins. Group read: Read one column and then the next person will read. Underline the first sentence of each paragraph. Answer the multiple choice questions. Your group should have the same answer for each question

  4. Writing Response Assessment How are the spurs used as a SYMBOL throughout the passage? Cite text evidence. Explain what the spurs meant to the barber and what they meant to Engelmen. Cite text evidence. What is a SYMBOL? something used for or regarded as representing something else; a material object representing something 20 Writing Points: Write in blue or black ink. You are graded on presentation AND Content. Due Friday at the beginning of class

  5. Wrapping it up! Hold on to your A Cowboy s Honor Packet. You will need it to write your short response assessment. Final Essay due FRIDAY. Typed or handwritten in blue or black ink. DO NOT write this essay on lined paper. If you have not picked up your rough draft, please do so!
