Contest Agenda: Saturday, April 22, 2023 + 7:15 a.m. Rooms open to set up laptops + 7:30 a.m. Registration opens + 8:00 Team orientation, 102 Agricultural Education & Communications Building + 8:10 Press conference + 8:20 Q&A with press conference speakers + 8:30 Dismiss to practicum rooms + 8:40 Communications quiz (in the same room as practicum) + 9:00 Editing exercise (in the same room as practicum) + 9:20 Practicum work begins + 11:00 Contestants will return to Room 102 All times after 8 a.m. are approximate. Tuesday, April 25, 2023 + 2:30 p.m. Results announced via Zoom (link to be sent at a later date)

  8. Structure +All materials will be online +Speaker bio +Fact sheet +Photos & logo +Videos +Link to website will be provided +Guest Wi-Fi provided +Submit online, except video

  9. Web Design +Design a site in Word Press with a menu and three pages +Designers act as if they work for the press conference speaker s organization +Free templates allowed. Customizing templates is allowed. +Photos, graphics, and dummy text will be provided to the designers. + Adobe Photoshop will not work in our lab. +Lab only has PCs; students may bring their own laptop. + Chromebooks will not work. +Students will be provided with login instructions, username, and password. +Once the student confirms the site is complete, the password will change.

  10. Video Production +Edit a 60-90 second video in Adobe Premiere Pro for the speaker s organization +Must bring own laptop +Must have Adobe Premiere installed. Must have Adobe username & password +Students must be able to export their videos. +Name the file with the chapter name and the student s last name. +Example: Lubbock_Smith +When finished, students will save to lab monitor s external drive.

Journalistic Writer +Press Release +PCs with Word provided +The story should be written as if the write works for the speaker s organization. +The story should be 100% factual and not contain opinions. +The story should be 250 350 words. +Save the file with the chapter name and student's last name. + Example: Lubbock_Jones +When finished, students will upload to the contest submission website

Opinion Writer +Blog post +Bring your own laptop +Although the document should also be 100% factual, the writer needs to incorporate his or her opinion. +Write the story as if he or she works for the speaker s organization or is a strong supporter of the organization. The post should be 250- 300 words +Save the file with the chapter name and student's last name. +Example: Lubbock_Johnson +When finished, students will upload to the submission site.

To do list - Technical +Ensure video editor has access to a current Adobe Creative Cloud subscription +Video editor knows how to export. +If they bring a laptop, they need to know the password +Sticky notes with password are permitted +All students should know to save often. +Teach writers how to save and retrieve a file from the computer

To bring: +Official dress +Pen or pencil for each contestant +One laptop computer equipped with Microsoft Word and WiFi +And the login information +One laptop computer equipped Adobe Premiere and WiFi +And the login information +Headphones for the video editor. The old timey kind with wires. +Optional laptop equipped with WiFi for the web designer +Power cords for each laptop
