You can buy curvy dolls or short dolls. You can even buy a disabled doll: a doll in a wheelchair or with one leg missing. Mattel is the company that makes Barbie. It decided to make different kinds of dolls to win the hearts of a more diverse group of children. When children see dolls that look like them, they can feel more comfortable.
23 ? / p.76 Reader s Bank Level 3 Rick Antosh lives in New York City. One day, he got really lucky. While he was eating oysters at a restaurant, he felt something hard in his mouth. At first, he thought that it was his tooth. To his surprise, it was a pearl! A pearl is a white, lovely jewel that grows inside the shell of oysters. If sand gets into an oyster s body, it hurts. The oyster does something amazing to feel less pain. It covers the sand with some shiny substances. It takes many years. Finally these substances turn into a beautiful pearl. Rick was very fortunate to find the pearl. It was a white, beautiful pearl with a black dot. It was worth about four thousand dollars!
24 / p.78 Reader s Bank Level 3 A jellyfish can live for a thousand years! When it grows old or sick, it does an amazing trick. Instead of dying, it changes back into a baby and grows up again. The jellyfish repeats this life cycle over and over again. It is just like a music player that repeats the same song again and again. Can all jellyfish do this? No. Only the scarlet jellyfish can. Now scientists want to make the human body like a jellyfish. If they succeed, humans may __________________!
