Overview of Revision Process to Date Planning & Outreach Engaged with nearly 50 individuals and groups to gather input on revision goals and priorities Recruited and selected review panel Review & Revisions Convened panel to provide input and feedback on a draft Sought content advisor/key stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the draft 5
Priorities & Considerations Emphasizes the importance of comprehensive health and physical education Presents skills and learning outcomes that are comprehensive, inclusive, medically accurate, and developmentally and age- appropriate Centers the critical skills (practices) students will acquire and apply across the disciplines of health education and physical education and in developing social emotional competencies. 6
Priorities & Considerations Recognizes the contribution of physical education on overall student health and well-being. Specific attention has been given to align standards related to physical education with national standards. Clearly articulates social and emotional competencies that apply across the curriculum and can be integrated into any content-area. Encourages a whole school, whole community, whole child approach and emphasizes the application of the practices across disciplines, throughout school programming and coordinated planning across the curriculum. 7
Revision Priorities & Considerations Highlights key skills and content that promotes mental health and wellness, and helps students understand, identify, and seek help for mental health concerns in themselves or others. Addresses a variety of health-related topics, while maintaining flexibility for ever-changing influences on health and well-being. 8
Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Practices Decision-making and Problem-solving. Make health-promoting, informed, responsible decisions and solve problems in a variety of health-related situations. Self-management and Goal Setting. Set goals, engage in health-promoting behaviors, and avoid risky behaviors. Social Awareness, Relationship, and Communication Skills. Enhance relationships, personal health, and the health of others through social awareness and effective communication. Movement Skills. Demonstrate competence in, and knowledge of, a variety of movement concepts, principles, motor skills, and physical fitness components in order to engage in purposeful and health- promoting physical activity, including sports and games. Self-awareness and Analyzing Influences. Examine how emotions, thoughts, needs, values, beliefs, and other factors (both internal and external) influence behaviors and articulate how these influences impact health behavior and outcomes. Information and Resource Seeking. Access, evaluate, and use valid and reliable health information, products, services, and related resources. Self-Advocacy and Health Promotion. Promote personal, family, and community health and well-being. 9

Make health-promoting, informed, responsible decisions, and solve problems in a variety of health-related situations. [P1] Nutrition and Balanced Eating [PK.1.NE] 1. Identify principles of balanced eating (i.e., moderation, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, consuming nutrient-rich foods, limiting processed foods and foods high in added sugar, drinking water, limiting sugary beverages) when making nutrition-related decisions. 11
