Impact of a Digital Investigative Approach on a Communicable Disease Investigation (Room B) Sam To, Arizona Dept of Health Services Highlights The ADHS ORRDI program provides support and assistance to local HDs by performing case investigation, disease notification, and contact tracing for various morbidities Digital version of COVID-19 case investigation survey and manual outreach attempts Approach has varied from follow-up attempts to the primary means of outreach for certain populations This approach has been a successful complement to traditional disease investigation Shifts manual efforts to higher-priority cases and those needing more time or attention Saves time and cost towards physical investigations Completes investigations quicker Adoption of this approach recommended as an accompaniment to manual COVID-19 outreach; expansion of this approach into COVID-19 contact tracing and case investigation of other morbidities could be beneficial to similar programs NCSD DIS Mini Conference 2023 18
Using Motivational Interview Techniques to Engage Cases and Contacts (Room B) Tatiana Gonzalez, Diane Mendelsohn, Nikki Engels, Isabel Moya, AZ DHS Highlights Interviewing skills, such as empathy, Ask-Tell-Ask, Active Listening, Closing the Loop and maintaining professionalism are vital for phone interviews. Importance of having resources available for Investigators to easily review during interviews or at any point in time. Quality assurance (QA) program is an essential process to help determine areas for education and improvement. Having a standardized scorecard and regular feedback continuously builds and fosters interviewing skills.
