  1. Bus and Instrumentation Work Status R. Bossert 10/18/2021

  2. Bus, Expansion Loop and Instrumentation Status LMQXFA01: Bus work on Qa side is complete. Final verification of lower loop travel and lead exit clamp is complete. Final check of wiring resistances has been reviewed. Bus work on Qb side is complete. Final verification of lower loop travel and position of lead exit clamp is complete. Final check of wiring resistances has been reviewed. Final design of exit plugs with pinouts has been completed by CERN and is being reviewed at Fermilab. Qa end Qb end

  3. Bus, Expansion Loop and Instrumentation Status Implementation of the wiring for the first pre-series cold mass (MQXFA03 and MQXFA04) has been completed. Final electrical checkout before welding the cold mass shell has been done. Final lengths of CLIQ and Kmod leads have been verified. Final verification of wire routing is complete. A new, smaller configuration of the cryo-heaters has been initiated by CERN. Enough for the first cold mass are being shipped to Fermilab and will be retrofit onto the inside surface of the end covers.

  4. Bus, Expansion Loop and Instrumentation Status Work on the spool assembly for adapting the Qb magnet end to the horizontal test stand continues. Construction (welding) of all the permanent components of the assembly was completed on Sept 29. An assembly has been completed and checked. External parts (spiders 3-5) are in fabrication. Qa end details have been resolved with CERN. #3 #5 #1 #2 #4

  5. Bus, Expansion Loop and Instrumentation Status Parts for IFS capillary tooling to use at Fermilab have been fabricated. Work on mocking up the wiring from the cold mass to the warm head (including the IFS capillary) is in process. Spliced configuration is currently being verified. Wires are currently being fit to holes in the plug. Next step is to bend the capillary tube with the existing tooling. Modifications to Q1/Q3 bus fabrication traveler and drawings have been completed and a traveler for the next bus has been issued, so construction of Q1/Q3 busses can begin if desired, however, priority is currently being put on the Q2 bus fabrication. Incoming electrical inspection procedure for Q1/Q3 magnets has been updated, and incoming inspection for the next two magnets (05 and 06) is beginning on Oct. 18th. Modification of procedures for Q1/Q3 bus insertion, expansion loops and instrumentation based on work done on LMQXFA01 is taking place. Minor modifications to the Q1/Q3 Bus housing lock design, based on the latest revision of the shell welding and tack blocks, has been completed and documented. The now lock assembly procedure will be added to the traveler.

  6. Bus, Expansion Loop and Instrumentation Status Modifications to the Q2 bus drawings and traveler have been made for the production run. Drawings have been approved and released at Fermilab. Approval from CERN of the drawings is expected this week. All modifications to the traveler are complete and the traveler is in the approval process. A proposed backup plan , to complete the first production bus has been discussed, using one of the prototype busses and new approved housing parts has been discussed with CERN. This plan is being implemented now, concurrently with the manufacture of additional Q2 busses. Minor modifications to the Q2 bus insertion procedure, based on the first CERN insertion of a bus into a Q2 have also been completed, and still need final verification with CERN personnel. A demonstration for CERN personnel of the expansion loop forming on our mockup will also be done if desired by CERN.
