Duval County Public Schools How to Register for the VPK Lottery 2024-2025 School Year
Who can attend a Duval County Public School VPK . Students who are four years of age on or before September 1, 2024. For the 2024 program year, children living in Florida must have been born between September 2, 2019 and September 1, 2020. (The lottery is only for VPK at schools within Duval County Public Schools. Families who are interested in private care or daycare do not participate in the lottery and should contact the private school or daycare for information).
Students with disabilities are welcome in our programs. Parents are encouraged to contact the District VPK ESE office for an IEP review. The ESE VPK office will place eligible students into seats in the program deemed most appropriate by the parent and district team. Students with disabilities also attend our VPK programs.
Between January 1stand the last day of February To be eligible for consideration for the lottery for fall admission, the online application must be completed no later than 11:59 pm on the last day of February. Lottery Application Period
Parents will complete the online application process and select up to three VPK programs, in order of preference, that the student is eligible to attend. VPK Lottery Application Process School child is eligible to attend- a student whose home school is Title I can only attend a Title I VPK program; a student whose home school is Non-Title I can only attend a non-Title I VPK program.

Steps for completing VPK lottery application Step 1: Create a Student ID for your child. https://dcps.duvalschools.org/Page/15745 Step 2: Create a Parent/Guardian Account (you must have a student ID in order to complete this step) https://dcps.duvalschools.org/Page/15745
Step 3: On or after January 1, 2024, email two proofs of identification to dcpsec@duvalschools.org. Include the child s name and student ID in the email. Please reference the approved list of documents via a webpage. Failure to submit accurate documents will delay the process. Uploaded documents and addresses added to Focus must match. Steps for completing lottery application Step 4: Wait 24-48 hours for the VPK application to appear in your Parent/Guardian Focus Account.
No later than late April, parents will receive an email with the lottery results. Students who are not accepted through the lottery into any of the parent s VPK choices are waitlisted. Waitlisted students may be contacted for admission into one of the requested schools by waitlist order if any openings occur during the summer. As openings are available, they will be filled according to that number. Lottery Notification
After acceptance, parents have until May 31stto visit the school to register the student and provide copies of the following: Certificate of Eligibility from the Early Learning Coalition (apply at www.elcduval.org); Proof of age (Birth certificate); Proof of residency; Current Florida Health Exam form; Current Florida Certificate of Immunization Seats will be released on June 1stif registration is not complete.
If an eligible student on the wait list is selected, parents will be notified by email and/or phone call. Parents will have 24 hours to accept the seat. If parent acceptance is not received during that period, the opening will be offered to the next student on the list. If an eligible student receives one of the choices listed on the application, the student will not be placed on the waitlist for any of the parent s other choices. Students who are accepted into one of the programs will not appear on a waitlist for any other sites. Wait List
The children of District employees if their parent or legal guardian is employed at the requested District school and the student is otherwise eligible to attend the school; Lottery Preferences
Admission priority will be given to eligible applicants with siblings already attending the requested school when the VPK applicant s enrollment will be concurrent with that of the currently attending sibling(s) for at least the initial year of their admission. Sibling applications must meet all eligibility requirements and admittance will be dependent upon space availability. Siblings are defined as a brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, stepbrother, or stepsister living in the same household as the applicant; Lottery Preferences
Military Dependent Preference for a transitioning student who has a parent on active duty. (Students meet eligibility requirements when applicable, follow application procedures, reside in Duval County and in the household of the military-affiliated parent, and submit active duty orders and emergency data records.) The children of persons employed with District food service or custodial service providers, if the service provider s employee is the parent or legal guardian of the child and the child is eligible to attend the school where the person is assigned. Lottery Preferences
The District shall select students by a computer lottery process, subject to the preferences previously listed. The District shall admit as many eligible students to the Pre-K program as can be accommodated within the program. Admission Process
Certain students with disabilities are eligible for transportation services. Parents are responsible for transporting VPK students to and from school. Transportation
District staff do not assist students with toileting needs in a traditional VPK classroom. The teacher and para will direct the child on what needs to be done but will not physically touch students. All students participating in a traditional VPK program should be fully potty trained. Accidents will occur from time to time, so parents are strongly encouraged to keep a change of clothes inside the child s book bag in a plastic bag. Potty Policy
VPK students will only be released to adults 18 years or older and are listed on the Emergency Contact card. VPK students cannot ride the school bus and are not allowed to walk home without an adult. Release of students

Month August 2024 Parent fee schedule for VPK extended day services from 11:30am-3:00pm for Non-Title I sites only. September 2024 October 2024 The established extended day services fee is divided equally across ten months. The fee is currently $300 each month but subject to change. Fees must be paid in full by the 1st of each month. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed for all late payments. There are no waivers or pro-rated fees for wrap-around services. If the due date falls on the weekend or on a holiday, the payment will be due on the next business day.
