3. Public Speaking Purpose and Vocabulary Public Speaking Purpose: To represent yourself and the topic well through effective communication, vocabulary use and delivery technique. Verbal Communication: Words that are spoken and written. Non-Verbal Communication: Gestures(use of hands), facial expressions, tone(what words sound like when speaking), and eye-contact that complements the words being said. Audience and Occasion: Very important to know your topic and purpose of your speech. Enthusiasm: How you delivery the speech. We must see your passion for the speech and excitement about it as you speak. Speed/Rate: The rate at which you speak is very important in order to get your message across. Posture: How you sit and stand is important when you speak. Slouching is never a good thing.

4. Gush About Something You Dont Love Gush About Something You Don t Love Enthusiasm is contagious. If you want your audience to be excited about your topic, then you need to show enthusiasm for it. Choose something you re indifferent about, say, a kitchen utensil, and practice speaking about it enthusiastically. Use your voice, emphasis, and body language to make it seem like the most exciting thing in the universe. START with a food for example: Broccoli Squash Peanut butter
