doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0391r0 February 2024 Introduction Many presentations in UHR SG and 11bn are discussing the procedure of preemption; Most of the presentations are discussing how to do preemption for UHR STAs within single BSS; Some issues about legacy STAs and OBSS need to be considered for preemption Issue 1: how to alleviate the affect to preemption when a legacy STA within own BSS obtains a TXOP Issue 2: how to alleviate the affect to preemption when a STA from preemption supported OBSS obtains a TXOP Issue 3: how to alleviate the affect to preemption when a STA from preemption not supported OBSS obtains a TXOP I don t have any idea how to solve issue 3. doc.: IEEE 802.11-24/0391r0 February 2024 Legacy STA Issue A legacy STA can not understand preemption procedure, it will reserve a long TXOP. The long TXOP will affect the delay of low latency traffic from other STAs; Reducing the TXOP limit can avoid legacy STA to reserve a long TXOP, but it will case new problem; A short TXOP limit will reduce the efficiency of UHR STAs which support preemption; We need a good balance between latency and efficiency; Proposed solution: TXOP limit in EDCA parameter element (set to a smaller value) is used by legacy STAs as well as UHR STAs that don t support preemption; A new TXOP limit (set to a larger value) is used for UHR STAs that support preemption; The UHR STAs use a larger TXOP limit will limit the PPDU length to allow preemption. The long TXOP will affect the delay of low latency traffic from STAs of own BSS; Potential solution 1: APs of multiple overlapping BSSs set TXOP limit for UHR STAs (as well as legacy STAs) to a small value Cons: low efficiency for both OBSS and own BSS due to short TXOP Potential solution 2: APs maintain short TXOP limit for legacy STAs, and long TXOP for UHR STAs; UHR STA will limit the PPDU length to allow preemption; STAs of own BSS can preempt a TXOP obtained by an OBSS STA.
