Kenyan Teenagers prefer to use smartphone to Kenyan Teenagers prefer to use smartphone to access the Internet >>> private and portable access the Internet >>> private and portable Preferred means of access Reasons for choice of device/location Smartphones often have to be concealed as many schools prohibit their use used with bundles Smartphone or school computer At School School computers are subject to monitoring by librarians or IT teachers Smartphones allow teenagers more privacy in their browsing Smartphone, laptop or home computer At Home Laptops and home computers are often shared among family members subject to greater scrutiny A preferred location for younger and lower SEC users no smartphones Cyber caf computers At the Cyber A breeding ground for exposure to pornography little to no monitoring While most online access is centered around these three locations, teenagers claim to be accessing the internet anywhere and at any time. Locations with free Wi-Fi are particularly popular among the youth as it allows them to save on the bundle spending (CA, 2015) 4

A National Focus on COP A National Focus on COP Practical initiative on child online protection (Policy, Education, Awareness) multilateral, multi-stakeholder national CA in collaboration with ITU has developed a Framework agreement and project document for the development of a national Strategy on COP in Kenya. Currently undergoing approval process at Ministerial and Cabinet level.
Capacity Building Capacity Building Equip relevant stakeholders with appropriate information CA in Phase II of programme Engaged the African Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI) - ITU Center of Excellence - to develop a Child Online Protection Capacity Building Programme Courses to Commence in November 2019 Engaged the Kenya Development (KICD) on the inclusion of Child Online Protection and Safety in the Curriculum.
