  2. Learning Outcomes We will: Know the reason why the food pyramid is important. List the food groups that form part of the food pyramid. Compare my own diet with the food pyramid. Develop a list of healthy eating guidelines.

  3. Food Pyramid The food pyramid is a guide that helps us to make healthy food choices. Here s what it looks like https://www.safefood.net/healthy- eating/guidelines/food-pyramid

  4. Fruit and Vegetable Group We should eat at least five servings daily. The main nutrients found here are fibre, vitamins and minerals. This group has every fruit and vegetable except: Beans Peas Lentils Potatoes

  5. Bread & Cereal Group The main nutrient found here is carbohydrate. We should eat 3-5 servings daily. Only active people should eat more than six servings. NOW: List foods opposite to create a list of foods in the Bread & Cereal Group.....

  6. Dairy Group We should eat 3 servings every day. Children and teenagers need to eat 5 servings. The main nutrient found here is calcium. NOW: List the foods opposite to create a list of the foods found in the Dairy Group...

  7. Meat, Fish & Alternatives Group We should eat two servings from this group daily. The main nutrient found here is protein. Alternatives include: Peas Beans Lentils Nuts Quorn Tofu

  8. Healthy Fats We can eat 2 servings from this group every day. These foods contain good fat which will not damage our body. The main nutrient found in this group is fat. Activity: Find out the serving size of some foods from this food group.

  9. Others Group We should eat very little of this group. We should only eat less than 1 serving of high in sugar foods and foods that have unhealthy fats. The main nutrients found here are fat and sugar. NOW: List the foods opposite...

  10. Activity Corner Divide and try these activities: Make a food pyramid to display on the wall List all the food you eat in one day. This is to help you with comparing your diet to the food pyramid. Develop a list of (five) healthy eating guidelines/rules for people to follow.. Complete the food pyramid activities in your HCT Workbook.
