SPEED OF MOVEMENT / SPEED OF JUMP Delay first movement as late as possible (trigger) All players hands above elbows, elbows above hips Avoid stepping back first to go forward Step/jump is the quickest way to jump Avoid double jumping (step-hop-jump) Weight balls of feet Small tick not a big tick - fast / explosive Jump fast, not jump high (28cm on ave 2015) Hips tilt forward when jumping Legs together Toes pointed Core locked Arms punch up from hips above head (Handcuffs) Jump straight up Soft hands

  3. JUMP FIRST/LIFT SECOND Allow jumper to jump by self initially to be explosive. Lifters do a small tick not a big tick to lift. Lifters press, not curl and press. Lifters last 3rdof lift to be most explosive. Lifters use legs to lift. Lifters bring legs together (up on toes) at top of jump then open legs back out when bringing jumper down Lifters keep head in neutral position (Kissing partners) Lifters end up chest to chest Lifters need to be able to adjust feet to get under jumper if required (20kg weight) Lifters lock out through shoulders

QUALITY OF THROW Homework to understand calls Hooker has Primer routine prior to throwing at training or a game Hooker works on combinations at trainings Hooker gets to lineout first and gets ball up and ready (tempos- dries ball if required) Front and back players set gap If tempos not on, hooker drops arms down and relaxes Hooker gets call Hooker brings ball up into throwing position but keeps relaxed in shoulders/arms/hands Hooker waits for Trigger Cue then releases ball Throws down inside shoulder of jumper Jumper jumps straight up into the air - not across off a tile on a tile Timing and speed of throw to meet jumper at his peak Ability to self correct during game. E.g. front hand coming off ball too early Have as many jumping options as possible Have a good caller Breathing is King (release tension) Process over outcome - NEXT JOB

DELIVERY Understand requirements of each throw/delivery 45 degree front / middle Back straight to half back Block for half back, know when kicking Speed of delivery important - recovery time Back lifter can help jumper - turn in air Jumper remain strong through body when turning Have half back call out - assists with delivery Half backs to be at some lineout sessions during the week to perfect delivery

  6. OPPOSITION BALL Mirror or pod defence system Ability to do both All jumpers must be good lifters Homework (cues) Read and react Jump before 100% certain they are jumping on you Trust your instincts (what is the worst thing that can happen??) Ability to single lift Ability to lean across lineout Go through with jump / lift even if late Hand in basket Props or hooker to have ability to defend as tail gunner in lineout - (more jumping options to attack them) If lost at the top of jump, the jumper and 2 lifters revert role to now be maul defenders. Mindset change.

  7. TRAININGS Always allow time for primer drills Want explosive jump / lift so don t do too many jumps in a row Use the week to build up to the game Video feedback Best coach is the player doing the activity with you- Peer feedback Pressure by using opposition Pressure by moving lineout position- at pace (tempos) Never allow poor technique Important the hooker has a say Work with your lineout leader
