Referees

We

have

a

tremendous

shortage

of

referees

Michigan

has

¼

the

referees

we

had

before

COVID

The

number

one

reason

for

referee

retirement,

especially

among
younger

referees
is

coach/parent

abuse.

Treat

Referees

with

respect

Referees

are

as

young

as

13

and

are

learning

their

role

as

well

Referees

have

been

coached

to

issue

yellow/red

cards

as

needed

Without

an

assistant

who

has

passed

all

certifications,

a

red

card
for

a

coach

effectively
ends

the

game

with

a

forfeit.

Please
don’t

get
 one

Fundamentally,

we

need

referees

for

a

game

and

cannot

play

without
them

Consider

signing

up

to

become

a

referee

Youth

13+

are

also

eligible

  9. Referees We have a tremendous shortage of referees Michigan has the referees we had before COVID The number one reason for referee retirement, especially among younger referees is coach/parent abuse. Treat Referees with respect Referees are as young as 13 and are learning their role as well Referees have been coached to issue yellow/red cards as needed Without an assistant who has passed all certifications, a red card for a coach effectively ends the game with a forfeit. Please don t get one Fundamentally, we need referees for a game and cannot play without them Consider signing up to become a referee Youth 13+ are also eligible

  10. Rescheduling Rescheduling procedure (based on numerous factors, this will be very hard to accomplish this Spring for the refereed age groups) Rescheduling is not an easy process. Please DO NOT reschedule if you are missing a player(s) but have enough to play the game. We have a shortage of referees. If your age group does not need a referee, rescheduling is much easier Reschedule Link: http://www.midlandsoccerclub.com/_files/headquarters/coaching- information/recreation- 1/Procedures%20for%20Rescheduling%20Games.pdf

  11. Rules Changes (none new this season) Coaches need to remain near the bench/center of the field Parents should sit on the same side as their team, but give room and space to the player bench Coin toss - winning team now chooses either: Kickoff Choose which goal to attack Substitutions - players are to leave at the closest touchline / goal line Drop Ball - now uncontested - for one player only, all others 5 yards away. Wall - if defending team has 3 or more in the wall, attacking team needs to be 1 yard away PK - GK now has to have at least one foot on line when ball is touched (was 2) Goal Kick, does not have to leave Penalty Area (PA) to be played. Opponents remain outside PA until ball is in play (U10 is still Build out Line) What are the regular rules? http://www.midlandsoccerclub.com/_files/programs/recreational- soccer/General%20MSC%20Recreational%20Playing%20Rules.pdf Age specific rules are also available on recreation website

  13. Weather System Perry Weather Automated weather system to track lightning and general weather Lightning detected within 10 miles will result in a 30 minute delay Alarm will sound Red light will appear on 901 Building when play is suspended Seek cover until 30 minutes has lapsed and red light has gone out. An all clear horn will sound You may follow the countdown on our website homepage

  14. FAQ What color jersey? Home = White Away = Green Can I swap a player or draft from another team if the player also desires it? NO any issues or concerns with player assignments need to be modified through the Rec Director. In ages where score is kept, playing with an ineligible player is an immediate forfeit.
