  1. PLEASE NOTE that this presentation replaces the traditional Parent Meeting to begin our season. The presentation will familiarize you with Thornwood HS policy and reminders, as well as address any questions. It s very important that the content of this presentation be discussed with and understood by you and your daughter. You must sign and date last page and return it to their respective level coach

  5. Athletic Training Thornwood has a relationship with ATI as it resources for Athletic Training. Trainers are typically on campus during practices and sporting events. It is important to be in contact with are trainer for injury management, avoiding injuries, and rehabilitation. Thornwood Athletic Trainer-Barb Dow Training Room# 708-225-4764

  6. Fundraisers/Concessions All Softball Team members will participate in any and all Fund Raisers. Funds generated by these Fund Raisers go back to help the teams and their members with Softball equipment/uniforms, Field upgrades, etc Thornwood Softball is fortunate to have an outside Concession Stand. This is another way for our program to generate funds. We need Parental help to run this Stand. It will be open for all home games. Please sign up for availability to help us!

  7. Supervision Thornwood wants to ensure that all Softball Program members are under the care of adult supervision at all times. At the conclusion of practices or games, coaches will always be sure that students have adult supervision until rides arrive. Parents should be aware of practice/game schedules so that student-athletes are picked up in a timely fashion. At NO TIME should any Softball Team member be in ANY Thornwood Athletic facility without Staff supervision.

  8. Responsibility of Student- Athlete GRADES: Students must maintain academic eligibility in order to participate in Softball. Weekly eligibility checks and the results are given to the Softball Coaches. Parents have the same ability to stay current with grades through PowerSchool. Student-Athletes who are ineligible, will be subject to ineligible status for a one week period (Monday-Sunday). Athletes will be required to attend CP period 2:35-3:05pm to help to raise their subject grade(s). She must also sign-in with CP class and bring proof of attendance to their Coach. The best policy is to stay on top of their academics at the start of each semester. As well as seeking help with teacher(s) before grades issues become a problem.

  9. Responsibility of Student Athlete Being an athlete means higher visibility in school and are held to a high level of responsibility. Softball program members must adhere to all Softball program rules and Code of Conduct. Softball program members must attend all practices and games (Home & Away) in order to be eligible to earn an Athletic Letter for year.

  10. Responsibility of Parents/Guardians COMMON GOALS: Thornwood has the same goals as parents in terms of development, sportsmanship, and success. Please discuss this presentation with your daughter. COMMUNICATION: Please consult with Softball website, Coaches, e-mail, and send-home materials to stay up to date with your daughters team. ISSUES: We know issues might arise. Please never put your daughter, family or Thornwood in an embarrassing situation. Issues should be addressed in the following order: Athlete to coach, parent to coach, parent/athlete to administrator (only if no resolution through first two methods). This order helps to develop the student- athlete with responsibility.

  11. Responsibility Of Parents PRACTICES: Thornwood Softball practices are not open to parents and fans. Please respect this policy and support your daughter from a distance. TRANSPORTATION: Athletic buses will provide your daughter a ride home after practices(Monday- Fridays). On Saturdays or Holidays, you must provide your own transportation to and from practice. After away games, your daughter must ride the bus back to Thornwood, unless parent or guardian can sign- out to take their daughter home with them.

  12. SPRING BREAK MARCH 24-APRIL1, 2017 is SPRING BREAK for THORNWOOD. Parents/Guardians-Please be advised that we have GAMES (HOME & AWAY), as well as practices during this time. If they are not here due to vacations, visits, etc It hurts their respective team. If they are gone during this time, they will sit out ONE GAME for every game they miss when they get back. Please try to make sure your daughter is HERE during that time

  13. Player Packet/Participation Fees Once your daughter is selected for their team, they will be responsible to buy a PLAYER PACKET as well as pay a Athletic Department Participation Fee ($50). VARSITY PLAYER PACKET $125- Hat, sox, game spikes, T-shirt jerseys (Pink Camo), stocking hat. PARTICIPATION FEE is $50 if have not played a sport this year- Pay at Bursar. JUNIOR VARSITY PLAYER PACKET-$54 Hat, sox, hoodie. PARTICIPATION FEE is $50 also. All team members (V/JV) must wear White(UA) Under Armour metal spikes for games.

  14. Softball Program Team Rules Be on time for practice. That means practice clothes and shoes and ready to go. Bring practice gear for inside and outside due to unpredictable weather. Practice starts @ 3:15pm during the week and a time to be announced on Saturday. If you are going to be late, you will need a pass. NO EXCEPTIONS! If you show up after 3:15 without a pass, you will run one lap or perimeter for every minute late. Also, detentions are NOT an excuse for being late for a game or practice. Resolve your negative behavior (tardies, etc ) so you are not issued detentions. Be on time for games. Report time will be announced by the Coaches. If you are late, even with a pass, you will not start that day. Be in uniform and cleats by report time. Bus times will be announced for away games. You are exempt from CP on game days. The bus will leave promptly 5 minutes after report time. If you are not there, you will be left behind and it will be considered a missed practice.

  15. Softball Program Team Rules con t Uniform and cleats must be on before you step off the bus for away games. No exceptions. Attendance will be taken at each practice and game. If you are going to miss, you need to contact your Coach in the morning and provide a reason. Extended illnesses require a doctor s note. There will be consequences for missed practices and games 1stunexcused practice Student-athlete will not start and/or get into a game as a sub. 2ndunexcused practice Will not play in the next two (2) games. 3rdunexcused practice Removal from team. Be open to constructive feedback. Listen with your ears and do not respond in haste. If you think you are being misunderstood, do not talk back. Rather ask to speak to Coach in private after practice or game for clarification.

  16. Softball Program Team Rules con t If you yip (talk back) during a game, you will be removed from the game. Hustle at ALL times. No exceptions. Be accountable for your gear and team s gear. An equipment list will be made and you will be responsible to get that gear to the dugout and back to shed during practices and home games, and to and from bus on away games. Pick up the dugout after games this includes home and away games. You will also have a Field Duty after each home game to do. Between every half inning, those not in the game will sprint from dugout to the foul pole and back. NO CELL PHONES allowed at practice or games. They must stay in your bags in the silent mode. Coaches will let you know when and if it is permissible to take your phones out on the bus.

  17. Softball Program Team Rules con t You must SPRINT from dugout to your position when taking the field, and off the field after the 3rdout. Be a good team mate. Cheer your team on. Represent yourself and Thornwood with a high degree of sportsmanship.

  18. Sports Physicals All Softball Program members must have a yearly physical on file with athletic office. Physicals are good for ONE YEAR from the date it is done. All freshman will have theirs done since they need it to get into school. If you played a fall or a winter sport this year, you do not need one. Only Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors who did not play a sport this year will need to get one. Please get one before the season starts You need one to tryout! If you have any medical restrictions, Coach and Athletic Trainer will be notified.

  19. Athletic Department Forms Thornwood High School Athletic Department has an athletic packet that needs to be filled out. All pages must be completed and signed off on and returned to their respective Team Coach before the start of the season! They will NOT be allowed to try-out without a athletic physical and packet. If Student-Athlete played a Fall or Winter Sport, they DO NOT need to fill out.

  22. Summer Softball Thornwood has partnered with South Holland Little League to have a Summer Softball Traveling Team. It is for ages 13-16. We will play a 25-30 game schedule. There is a cost involved to play. This gives the players an opportunity to get better and help get ready for next years season. Please take advantage of this great opportunity. Camps: There are many college camps available to participate in during the summer. We encourage ALL players to stay active and involved to get better!! Thornwood Softball will also have Summer Softball Camp.
