BACKGROUND AND HISTORY NBT was founded on 1stAugust 1957 by the Government of India as the apex body under the Government of India to create book mindedness and a culture of reading in the society. The Foundation Address was made by the then Vice-President Shri S Radhakrishnan in the presence of the first Prime Minister Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, and first Education Minister Shri Abul Kalam Azad

MAJOR OBJECTIVES MAJOR OBJECTIVES BOOK PUBLISHING IN ALL MAJOR INDIAN LANGUAGES BOOK PROMOTION CREATION OF A CULTURE OF READING INCULCATING READING HABIT CHILDREN, YOUNG READERS, AND GENERAL READERS NEW DELHI WORLD BOOK FAIR BOOK FAIRS AND EXHIBITIONS PROMOTION OF INDIAN BOOKS ABROAD SUPPORT TO INDIAN PUBLISHING INDUSTRY

5. 60 YEARS EXHIBITIONS (1957-2007) AT THE NEW DELHI WORLD BOOK, NBT WILL PUT UP TWO MAJOR PAVILIONS TO SHOWCASE ITS WORK THE PAVILION AT FOYER 8 OF HALL 8 FOCUSSES ON ITS PUBLISHING, AND DOMESTIC ACTIVITIES, AND WILL HAVE A READING CORNER, AND INFORMATION ABOUT IT SPECIFIC SCHEMES THE PAVILION AT THE FOREIGN PAVILION (HALL A) WILL FOCUS ON THE INTERNATIONAL BOOK PROMOTION ACTIVITIES OF NBT, AND WOULD ALSO SHOWCASE THE WORK OF OTHER INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES AND COUNTRIES IN INDIA UNDERTAKEN IN COLLABORATION WITH NBT.
