India has a rich heritage of traditional dairy products recognized under Geographical Indications (GI) Act of 1999. The GI registered dairy goods include Dharwad Pedha from Karnataka, Banglar Rasogolla from West Bengal, Odisha Rasogolla from Odisha, and Srivilliputtur Palkova from Tamil Nadu. Each product has unique characteristics and quality standards tied to its place of origin, offering intellectual property protection. These products signify the cultural and traditional importance of dairy in Indian cuisine.

  3. n India has a rich heritage of traditional handicrafts, food. Geographical Indications indicates that particular goods have some special characterstics, qualities or reputation.that are attributable to its place of origin and are part and parcel of the cultures and traditions of a country. 3

  4. under Geographical Indications of goods (Registrationan d Protection) Act, 1999. GI tags are issued by GI registry under department of industry promotion and internal trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. 4

  5. GI Act, 1999 offers IPR protection to- agricultural; manufactured; natural; handicrafts and foodstuffs which includes dairy 5

  6. The GI registered dairy food stuff are: Dharwad Pedha, Karnataka Banglar Rasogolla, West Bengal Odisha Rasogolla, Odisha Srivilliputtur Palkova, Tamil Nadu 6

  7. DHARWAD PEDHA GI tag in 2008. Dharwad, Karnataka 7

  8. Originated in late 18th Century. By Mr. Ram Ratan Singh Thakur UNIQUENESSOF DHARWAD PEDHA: Made by hand. Made by using milk (Buffalo) and sugar, No favoring agents. Longer shelf-life than any other sweets. 8

  9. BANGLAR RASOGOLLA GI tag in 2017. West Bengal. 9

  10. Origin: Nadia Districtof West Bengal By Nabin Chandra Das UNIQUENESS Colour is white/off- white Soft, smooth . Chewiness low Starch is absent High Cohesiveness 10

  11. Protein 7.56% Casein 7.08% Calcium 117.3 mg/100 gram 11

  12. ODISHA RASOGOLA GI tag in 2019 Odia (now Odisha) . 12

  13. Origin: Odia Ramayan Served as a delicacy to Bharat and Shatrughan by sage Bhardwaj when they went to take back Ram from forest. UNIQUENESS Very soft and juicy. Can be swallowed without teeth pressure. Caramelization of sugar gives off-white colour. Suji or maida and cardamom powderis used. 13

  14. Srivilliputtur Palkova GI tag in 2019 Srivilliputtur, Tamil Nadu . 14

  15. Origin: Local Residentsof Srivilliputtur UNIQUENESS Milk used : local, unadulterated, naturally sweet. Ancient firewood burners/stoves are used to cook. filling and satiates hunger by a lesser quantity. Nourishing for body. 15
