  1. Friday 22nd January 2021 Thank you so much for sending over your pictures of your colour wheels last week! We loved seeing your work, you had all mixed the colours carefully and we were impressed with your neat painting too

  2. Friday 22nd January 2021 Let s begin by looking back at our stimulus picture, The Source of Intelligent Life by Alan Bean .

  3. Friday 22nd January 2021 Throughout this unit of work, you are going to work towards creating your own version of this painting Showing your newly discovered planet, rather than Earth!

  4. Friday 22nd January 2021 However, we are not ready to create our final piece yet! Today, our LO is . LO: I can investigate and explore the properties of different materials and the effects they have when mixed with paint.

  5. Friday 22nd January 2021 Today, start by looking at the moon, it is as if Alan Bean is standing on it looking at the Earth, isn t it? Does it look smooth or textured?

  6. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: This week, you are going to experiment with textures to try and create an effect that you will use again in a couple of weeks to create the moon in your own image.

  7. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: You re going to experiment with texture by mixing different materials with paint to see if you can create a texture that you think you could use in your final piece of art to create the moon. Don t worry if you don t have any paints at home, there s an alternative explained later on!

  8. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: Your work does not need to be neat today! You don t need to try and create a moon shape either, just a blob for each different mixture will be fabulous! You re experimenting, not creating a final piece of work. Here s an example of how your work might look: (This person has experimented with tone/depth of colour rather than texture. Your captions under each example could say paint mixed with salt , for example)

  9. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: Firstly, consider the colour of the moon in our focus painting. Which colours can you identify? I can identify white, grey and maybe a hint of blue? So, I d use those colours of paints/crayons whilst experimenting today.

  10. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: If you have paints at home: -See if you can find at least three materials to mix with your paint. Maybe you could use flour? Sugar? Salt? -Try each of your mixtures out on your paper. You don t need to paint a moon shape! Just a patch on your paper will be great so that you can see what the effect is on the texture. -Comment on the effect / texture that is created each time. If you wanted to make some modelling paste please find a link to a video that shows you how to do it on the next slide!

  11. Friday 22nd January 2021 Modelling paste Alan Bean used modelling paste in lots of his pieces of art. -If you want to make some, here s a link that shows you one way of making your own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGRywMspkP4 -The video says to use acrylic paint, but I think any white paint should be fine! - The person also has lots of different tools, but I don t think you need a specific measuring cup, just make sure you add the same amount when it says equal part or half of that if it says half a measure ! You can mix your paste with your paint using whatever you ve used to mix your paste! -Can you use this to create texture? -Can you create craters like you can see on The Source of Intelligent Life ?

  12. Friday 22nd January 2021 Your task: If you don t have paints at home: -Consider how you can create a sense of texture using different materials alongside your pencil crayons or pens. -If you put a material such as sugar underneath a piece of paper and shaded lightly over the top, would that create a sense of texture? -Find a few different materials at home and have a go at doing this! -Comment on the effect that each one has on the texture.

  13. Friday 22nd January 2021 LO: I can investigate and explore the properties of different materials and the effects they have when mixed with paint. Plenary: Which of your paint mixtures / colouring effects do you think created the most moon-like texture today? Why? Remember your choice because, when you create your final piece in a future lesson, you will need to recreate this mixture / effect to create the moon for your piece of work.
