The Equality Act of 2010, enforced since October, provides a comprehensive legal structure to combat discrimination and inequality. Councillor Paula Wakefield champions equalities and domestic abuse issues at Wigan Council, emphasizing protected characteristics such as youth, older persons, disability, gender reassignment, carers, armed forces, socio-economic disadvantage, ethnicity/race, belief, sex/gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and civil partnership/marriage.
