SITUATION IN FINLAND Policy & system level Schools and universities were closed on March 13 - Schools and universities started to use Open and distance learning just after that - Schools needed new ways of teaching and learning (used to class-room teaching) - Universities were better prepared (blended learning has been used widely) - Different online tools have been used, LMSs (Moodle), Zoom, Teams etc. also with mobiles - New schedule were needed, shorter lectures than usually -

  3. POLITICAL DECISIONS Schools will be opened next week Government is just negotiating about the situation Entrance exams will be arranged on-line in the first time in history Ethical question: How widely should COVID-19 let to spread in population or how much do we try to limit infections?

  4. ICT AT SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES Students at primary schools have not necessary computers Bigger firms have organized a campaign to collect used laptops to school children University students have computers (laptops) But still there is lot of need for improvements in pedagogy and practices, such us: - scheduling of lectures - simple tools to use - communication tools etc.

TEACHERS AND TEACHING DISTANCE LEARNING: Teaching and learning at a distance Clear structure Clear content Clear assignments Clear deadlines PEDAGOGY: Pedagogical approaches to teaching with technology Motivation factor Support; advices for learning, learning support Assessment is the same, relative assessment when needed (adult education, teacher training)

TEACHERS AND TEACHING TEACHERS: Teacher professional development and using tech to support teachers Happened during one night Learning by doing Common learning process Growing development process Shared support is needed (regular meetings among teachers and supporting staff) Technical support and pedagogical support is needed (trained staff for that)

TEACHERS: Teacher professional development and using tech to support teachers Face-to-face learning is always needed in all education Blended learning is needed in the future Mainstreaming of open and distance learning will be needed more and more Trained technical and pedagogical staff in cooperation Some students are more active in online learning than in face-to- face learning Personalizing is needed according students age, situation, area etc. Everything what we learn during pandemic, we need to keep in the future
