Updates were made to the Restraint and Isolation Policy by the School Board on September 20th, 2023.   3. Examples

  4. Definition: The removal of students and staff from a space where a student s behavior presents imminent risk of harm to themselves, or others and all other de-escalation attempts have failed. A room clear is used to eliminate the risk of harm without the need for restraint. A room clear should not be used for low-intensity behaviors such as non-compliance or work refusal. At least one staff member must be present at all times in the room with the student to be defined as a room clear. Room clears will be documented and reported to parents. Room Clear Key Elements Staff member must be present at all times. Documented and tracked for patterns of behavior. States when a room clear should not happen and the limited circumstances when it could occur. Parents will be notified if their child s behavior led to a room clear.
