  1. AMRACH An Am rach Briefing on behalf of: S20 091June 2020/MMCL

  2. Background We polled the Smart Phone Panel on two occasions during the crisis on Monday 28th April 2020 in the afternoon. On Friday 5th June 2020. The purpose of the staggered survey was two fold: The first was to provide a sense of a benchmark historical experience The second was to ascertain the experience during the lockdown associated with the pandemic Amarach s Smartphone panel is designed for rapid data collection and response. It has been built to be nationally representative of age, gender, region and social class. The Smart Phone panel members are incentivised to respond by inclusion in a raffle. In the context of the issues of domestic abuse and coercive control, a smartphone panel or online survey has the advantage of being completed by the respondent in privacy and without any vocal interaction with an interviewer either face to face or by telephone. We achieved high responses rates on both occasions that the polls was live. The response rate is very high. The response rate was undoubtedly driven by the fact that restrictions as a consequence of the Covid 19 pandemic are in place. The findings have been weighted to national demographics. The questionnaires were signed off by Saoirse in advance of the poll going live. These questions provide initial findings which should be a cause of concern to Irish society. They also underline the need for more detailed research into a key social problem. 2
