The Fascinating Life Cycle of a Butterfly
Discover the miraculous transformation of a butterfly from egg to adult stage. Witness the process of metamorphosis, from tiny eggs laid on host plant leaves to the emergence of a beautiful adult butterfly ready to take flight. Learn about the stages of development - eggs, caterpillars, pupa, and adult - each serving a unique purpose in the life cycle. Appreciate the diversity and wonder of nature through the captivating journey of a butterfly.

Life cycle of a Butterfly Mr. Hguyen June 18, 2011
Metamorphis Life Cycle of Butterflies *Eggs are first stage *They are tiny, sometimes microscopic *Laid on the underside of host plant leaves *Hatching predetermined by time eggs are laid
Caterpillars the feeding stage *Minute, some virtually invisible to naked eye *Coloration of caterpillar is quite diverse *Job of caterpillar is to eat, eat, eat *Caterpillars must shed skin several times, each shedding called an instar *Can multiply in size more than a thousand fold *When final instar occurs, pupa emerges
Pupa - the transition stage *Transformation in pupa stage is miraculous *What emerges in no way resembles the caterpillar *Complete disassembly of the cells and reassembling of cells into new form *The butterfly emerges from this stage
Adult Butterfly the reproductive stage *Upon emerging, the swollen body pumps fluid into tiny shrived up wings *Within a few hours, wings are full sized, dried, and become more rigid *Butterflies are ready to take flight *The job of the adult is to mate and lay eggs *Most live only one or two weeks

The Task: Mr. Hguyen has asked the Master Technology Teacher for assistance in creating the presentation. Using your knowledge of presentation software, create a model slide show presentation to Mr. Hguyen s specifications. In creating this presentation, you should create four slides using the five files provided by Mr. Hguyen, with each slide containing a title and the appropriate graphic and the provided text displayed as a bulleted list; format the slides appropriately to communicate to the intended audience (you may resize and manipulate text and graphics as necessary); and animate the entry of the text into slides 1 and 3, and animate the entry of the graphics into slides 2 and 4 (the animations should occur automatically and not require a mouse or keyboard click). Please complete the task on slides 4-7; save the file and upload it into the wiki on the appropriate page.
PRESENTATION TASK Classroom Context: This performance assessment focuses on a high school biology teacher, Mr. Hguyen, who is preparing a unit on the life cycle of a butterfly - metamorphosis. Background: As part of the study on metamorphosis, Mr.. Hguyen would like to present to his students a brief slide show presentation outlining the four stages of butterfly life. He would like the presentation to consist of one introductory slide that contains the egg stage and one slide on each of the other three stages, and he would like to have each slide in the presentation advance manually. Mr. Hguyen has provided a link to the graphics for the four slides that can be downloaded by clicking on the links below.
