  3. NAVSEA 05Z Update to NSRP NAVSEA 05Z High Priority Items SEA 05Z is working with NSWC PD on numerous issues related to Circuit Breaker Obsolesce and Qualification Testing Requirements Continuing efforts to reduce the number of over-age specifications standards technical manuals and drawings MIL-I-631 D Insulation Electrical Synthetic Resin Requalification to new formulations of flame retardant and plasticizers. Update requirements established describing UL 94 Flame Resistance Tests Supply Chain and Qualification and Requalification Issues of MIL-DTL-24705B Cable Transits andMIL- I-3064 Plastic Sealer Supporting FFG 62 electrical plant design DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. 4. NAVSEA 05Z Update to NSRP Multi Cable Transits and Sealants Fire Resistant Qualification Test Requirements for MIL-DTL-24705B and Slants 1 3 4 Penetrators Multiple Cable Electric Cable (MCTs) Project started to update all Fire Safety Tests per MIL-STD-3020 Appendix D. Working to get test requirements to all vendors and work towards requalification of cable transits for the QPL. Shock Testing is required prior to Fire Resistance Test for QPL products to requalify. This change impacts QPL Approval for Existing and New Cable Transits MIL- I-3064 Insulation Electrical Plastic Sealer Revising qualification and retention testing requirements of MIL-STD-3020 Appendix D. Letter sent to sealants vendors detailing the new test requirements. Related tasks to get approval for products to relieve supply chain issues and new qualification of the NSRP developed MCTs and Sealing Systems. 5. MIL SPECS STANDARDS DRAWINGS Standard for Electrical Enclosures Update MIL-STD-108 Definitions Basic Requirements Enclosures for Electric and Electronic Equipment Last updated in 1985 but no significant changes since 1966 Updated all reference documents e.g. IEC 60947-1 Aligned with MIL-DTL-2036 Added reference to Composite Enclosures Dwg Included a table for enclosure rating definitions and comparison to IP and NEMA NEMA solicited input from enclosure manufacturers but few responses received. The comment period has ended but we are encouraging additional SRB review of proposed changes. 5 DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release. Distribution is unlimited.

  6. MIL SPECS STANDARDS DRAWINGS Standard for Electrical Enclosures Update Degree of Enclosure Hermetic 1 Definition Enclosure is permanently sealed to prevent transmission of air gas or moisture. Open Open protected 3 Enclosure provides no environmental protection and permits free transmission of air. Splashproof Splashproof protected 3 Enclosed equipment when mounted in its normal manner operates satisfactorily in presence of liquid (coarse spray) or solid particle directed at it or its mounting surface. Spraytight 4 Enclosure prevents entry of liquid striking it from any direction. Submersible (15 feet) Submersible (50 feet) Submersible (150 feet) Submersible (300 feet) Submersible (1 600 feet) Open submersible (15 feet) Open submersible (50 feet) Open submersible (150 feet) Open submersible (300 feet) Open submersible (1 600 feet) Enclosed equipment operates satisfactorily when submerged in water up to specified depths. DRAFT Totally enclosed Enclosure prevents circulation of air between the exterior and interior but does not necessarily prevent leakage of air. Watertight Enclosure prevents leakage of water striking or covering enclosure. 6 DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release. Distribution is unlimited.

Changed insulation to thermoset for most cable types per latest slant sheet revisions. Made sure that unarmored is called out for applicable cable types. For armored called out the armored characteristic where applicable. Stated that armored is not in the most current slants. Believe this is the way to go since the armored versions are still installed in older ships. NSRP and NAVY end users and designers are encouraged to do SRB review of proposed changes 9 DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release. Distribution is unlimited.
