Sound travels at 1,120 ft/s (340 m/s) in air The speed of sound is different for different mediums The speed of sound also depends on the temperature of the medium Speed of sound in water is 1497 m/s You can measure the speed of sound by knowing the frequency of the sound and the wavelength in the medium. Speed = Wavelength X Frequency
