Tasmanian Lions Foundation: Supporting Community Projects in Tasmania
The Tasmanian Lions Foundation, established in 1988, provides grants to Tasmanian Lions Clubs for community projects beyond their resources. Over the years, the Foundation has supported various initiatives such as emergency grants, mental health programs, drought relief, and equipment purchases. Led by dedicated Directors, the Foundation plays a vital role in assisting Lions Clubs in completing impactful projects within Tasmania.

TheTASMANIAN LIONS FOUNDATIONIncorporated.
History In 1967, major bushfires ravaged southern Tasmania; Cyclone Tracey devastated Darwin in 1974; More fires in Tasmania in 1979; Tasmanian Lions commenced investigating the establishment of their own Foundation with a view to having a future disaster relief fund available; Clubs and the District responded and a Fund was available in 1988; It was decided that the interest from the capital would best be used to assist Clubs in developing projects beyond their resources; The Fund has continued to grow, mainly through donations from Tasmanian Lions Clubs; Many useful projects within Tasmania have been made possible by Grants or interest free loans.

Foundation Directors 1 Director from each area is elected each year, for a 3-year term Current Directors are: South Lions Peter Goldstone-James, Sue Johns (Secretary), and Brian Forster North Lions Phil Robinson (Treasurer), Derryl Hill and Robert Scott North West Lions Phil Viney (Chairman), Dee Dawkins, and Reuben Newman The District Governor and the 1st Vice-District Governor

Grant Details Over the last 12 years, there s been:- 78 Grants Average of 6.5 grants per year Total of $255,938 Average of $21,328 granted per year Average of $3,214 per grant
Disaster/Emergency Grants These types of grants are available to Clubs for a variety of reasons including fire and flood damages to property within Tasmania Clubs should initially contact the TLF with enquiries Emergency Grants are usually set at $1000, and are paid within 48 hours of receiving details 2 x Emergency grants were paid in 2017/18 @ $1000 each 2 x Emergency grants were paid in 2018/19 @ $1000 each
FUNDRAISING Clubs are encouraged to donate directly to the Foundation Clubs are also encouraged to purchase a Tasmanian Lions Fellowship Award for rewarding club or community members The TLF Fellowship Award costs $500

TLF Investments The TLF has an investment that s been built-up over the years by careful management, but still accommodating most Clubs with grants as requested. The main investment is now just over $1.1m We also invest and manage the following funds:- The District T1 Emergency Fund (just under $75k); The Fletcher and Spencer Investment; and The Sunshine Association Investment and allocations
The Investment The main Investment has grown by ensuring that ALL funds donated and/or through TLF Fellowship Award purchases is deposited direct into that Account In the early 2000 s the interest from the investment fund was in excess of $70k pa Despite the ongoing deposits (Award purchases and donations), the interest rate decreases has had a huge affect on available funding In 2011, the interest was down to $42k pa Last year, the interest was down to $16.4k
Summary The TLF has granted many Tasmanian Lions Clubs funds for major projects within their communities. Many Tasmanian Lions Clubs regularly donate funds to boost the investment. Tasmanian Lions Fellowship Award purchases have been our investment backbone. We will continue to manage the investments, so Tasmanian Lions can look forward to long-term major project funding continuity.
