  1. Vocabulary Intro Dogs

  2. hairy Hairy means having a lot of hair. This dog is very hairy. It has a lot of long fur. Would you prefer to have a pet that is hairy or one that is not?

  3. mammals Mammals are warm-blooded animals that have backbones and hair. Female mammals produce milk for their young. Cats are mammals, but fish are not. How do you think mammals are different from birds?

  4. litter A litter is a number of young animals born at one time to the same mother. These puppies are different colors, but they are from the same litter. Have you ever seen a litter of puppies or kittens?

  5. stayed Stayed means lived with or visited. My dog stayed at my cousin s house while we were on vacation. What would you do if you stayed in a castle?

  6. canned Canned means preserved by putting into a can. This man chose canned dog food at the pet store. Do you think foods that are canned taste just a good as fresh food?

  7. chews Chews means grinding or crushing with teeth. My older brother gets upset when our puppy chews on his shoes! How might you train a dog to behave if it chews on your things?

  8. clipped Clipped means attached with a clip. The lost dog had a name tag clipped to her collar. It helped us find her owner. Do you have anything clipped to your backpack?

  9. coat The hair or fur of an animal is called its coat. This fox has a thick coat that helps it keep warm in the winter. Why might an animal that lives in a snowy place have a white coat?
