  3. The Promise of Salvation (3:16 20) The promise of a future call to not fear or lose hope (3:16 18) o The call to not fear or lose hope (v. 16) The timing: on that day (cf. v. 11) = today The audience: inhabitants of a transformed Jerusalem/Zion = the church The call: Don t fear or lose hope

  4. o A reason not to fear or lose hope (vv. 1718) The reason: God s presence with us (v. 17a) Its implication: God s promise to save and celebrate over his redeemed (vv. 17b 18) oThe promise made (v. 17b e): To deliver (v. 17b) To celebrate us (v. 17c e; cf. Isa 65:17 19) oThe proof that the promise will be fulfilled: a second exodus has already occurred (v. 18)

Isa 11:11, 16 In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea . 16And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.

Isa 49:56 And now the LORD says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength 6he says: It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.

Jer 16:1415 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when it shall no longer be said, As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt, 15 but As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them. For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
