The Answer Annie was a villager, and people began to suspect she was a witch. She had a familiar and claimed she could make fruit fall from the trees. However, around this time Newton discovered the theory of gravity. As the printing press was also developing in the 17thCentury, news got around about the theory of gravity. Scientific developments could explain strange goings on and so people no longer believed in witch craft.
