  1. Pole Vault- Athletes to Target and Intro to the Basics Steven Strawderman

  2. As a coach; who should I be recruiting for the vault? Program expectations? Do we test our prospective athletes? What do we expect from our athletes? Fearless Vertical Jump Strong, Powerful runners Gymnasts?

  3. Physical Characteristics.. Does it Matter? Do taller vaulters have a better chance of jumping high? Strong Upper body vs Better all out speed Bounce

  4. Coaching Priority: Vaulting safely Pole must move from original planting position to vertical. Vaulter and pole work together to constantly move dynamically throughout the jump. Vaulter is to stay behind the pole not off to either side. Look up

  5. Back to Basics Coaches Checklist Athletes Grip Wide? Narrow? Running posture / pole carry Gradual pole drop Proper timing of planting motion Jump, push, and move the pole to vertical

  6. What can we do as coaches to help athletes progress and stay interested? Make it fun Set attainable goals construct a training schedule to work up to those goals Identifying potential weakness in a particular phase of the vault. Specifically prepare and train athlete to be more efficient in said phase.

  7. What can we do as coaches to help athletes progress and stay interested? Coaches Checklist- Every vault / Every Drill Indicate where exactly things started to go wrong from your view. Go back one step and analyze (Continuous Chain) Revert back to purposeful drilling of basic fundamentals. Exaggerate Repeat
