Eco Education Sustainability Development - Buildings & Estate Curriculum Community In 2009 Ofsted conducted a 3-year evaluation across 14 schools looking at how education for sustainable development impacted on improving the broader life of the school. It concluded - All but one of the schools improved by at least one inspection grade Positive links between pupil s involvement in sustainable activities and improvement in their attitude and general behaviour Greater awareness of sustainability led to reduced financial costs and better resource and estate management www.pect Link to the full report and its findings - https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/upload/public/attachments/1176/education for sustainable development ofsted 09.pdf http://efsandquality.glos.ac.uk/toolkit/OFSTED Inspections 2012.pdf www.pect.org.uk

Eco Education & Health & Wellbeing Links for the Ofsted Framework - Leadership & Management School Ethos & Environment Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Student Voice Staff Development Health & Wellbeing The DfE identifies that a whole-school approach to promoting good mental health is a protective factor for child and adolescent mental health. Although schools play a significant role in this it is considered good practice be work in a wider multi-agency approach. It is also the perfect way to get parents engaged in learning experiences with their children, as well as governor involvement. www.pect www.pect.org.uk

  4. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The SDGs came into effect on January 2016, and they will continue to guide UNDP policy and funding until 2030, in some 170 countries and territories. There were 1.2 billion young people aged 15-24 years globally in 2015, accounting for one out of every six people worldwide. www.pect By 2030, the target date for the sustainable development goals, this number is projected to have grown by 7 per cent, to nearly 1.3 billion. Young people need to acquire the education and skills to contribute in a productive economy, and they need access to a job market that can absorb them into its labour force. This next generation will be the force for development but only when provided with the knowledge and opportunities needed to thrive. www.pect.org.uk

  10. Eco Charter There are a number of different ways to incorporate the 10 Eco Charter themes into the curriculum. It is very easy to identify ways in which small elements of each theme can fit into any number of these and enhance existing educational practices These could be used instead of a traditional approach to teaching topics and can even form the basis to project based learning across a number of areas at the same time, e.g. national awareness weeks. www.pect www.pect.org.uk
