2. Questions Questions In questions, we usually put the subject after the first verb: Subject + verb verb + subject - Will Tom be here tomorrow? Tom will be here tomorrow. Tom will will Tom? - Have you been working hard? I have been working hard. You have have you? - When was the house built? The house was built in 1980. The house was was the house

3. Questions Questions In present simple questions, we use do/ does: - Do you live near here? I live near here. you live do you live? The film begins does the film begin - What time does the film begin? The film begins at 9:00 pm.

4. Questions Questions In past simple questions, we use did: - Did you sell your car? I sold my car. you sold did you sell? The train stopped did the train stop - Why did the train stop? The train stopped due to traffic.

5. Questions Questions Isn t it ? / Didn t you .. ? etc. (negative questions) We use negative questions especially to show surprise: - Didn t you hear the doorbell? I rang it three times. Or, when we expect the listener to agree with us: - Haven t we met somewhere before? Yes, I think we have.

6. Questions Questions Be careful with do/does/did questions. We say: - What time does the film begin? Another way: Do you know what time the film begins? - What do you mean? Another way: Please explain what you mean? - Why did she leave early? Another way: I wonder why she left early.

Questions Questions In reported speech, the verb usually changes to the past (were, closed, .. etc.): - The police officer said to us, Where are you going? reported : The police officer asked us where we were going. - Clare said, What time do the banks close? reported : Clare wanted to know what time the banks closed.
