William Shakespeare My birthdate is unknown, but it was around 1564. I was born in Warwickshire, England. My works are mainly sonnets and include: All The World s a Stage Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind But you probably know me for my playwriting. I wrote Macbeth, Othello, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet.
William Blake I was born November 28th, 1757 in London, England. Besides poetry, I painted and drew end-of-the-world themed images. My works include: Milton Songs of Innocence and of Experience The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Tyger, Tyger (burning bright in the forest of the night)
Robbie Burns I was born January 25th, 1759 in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland. I purposely wrote my poetry in a Scottish dialect. My works include: Auld Lang Syne To a Mouse, on Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough Ae fond Kiss and then we sever Halloween
Edgar Allan Poe I was born January 19th, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. I invented detective fiction and also wrote science fiction and horror. I had a hard life, watching almost everyone I ever loved die in front of me, in poverty. I did not become a popular poet until after my death. My works include: A Dream Within a Dream Annabelle Lee The Raven
Emily Dickinson I was born December 10th, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. I was a recluse, staying inside my dwelling for most of my life. My death-focused works include: If I Can Stop Behind me Dips Eternity Hope is the Thing with Feathers
Robert Frost I was born March 26th, 1874 in San Francisco, California. My works include: Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening The Road Not Taken After Apple-Picking Mending Wall
T. S. Eliot I was born September 26, 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to London, England. I was an essayist, publisher, playwright, literary and social critic, and one of the twentieth century's major poets. My poetry was characterized by intermittent, formless rhyming, and mysterious, surreal, seemingly nonsensical scraps of descriptive phrase. I believed that releasing only a couple of poems each year should represent important literary events all would pay attention to. My works include: The Waste Land The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) I was born March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. I created American WWII propaganda with many depictions of Hitler and Hirohito of Japan as deadly enemies, trying to encourage America to join the war effort before Pearl Harbor. I illustrated my odd poems and books, some of which were for children and some of which were not. The ones for children purposely used rhyme and an extremely limited number of different words. One of my poems was delivered as a commencement speech at a graduation. My works include: Oh, the Places You ll Go! Horton Hears A Who The Grinch Who Stole Christmas The Cat In The Hat
Shel Silverstein I was born September 25th, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. I illustrated my odd and sometimes vulgar poems, some of which were for children and some of which were not. One of my poems was sung by Johnny Cash My works include: Where the Sidewalk Ends A Boy Named Sue Bear in There Polly In A Porny Ickle Me, Tickle Me, Pickle Me Too The Giving Tree (children s book)
