  4. Holy Communion and Passover For many Christians the Holy Communion (or Eucharist) is the most important act of worship. The word Eucharist comes from a Greek word that means thanksgiving . The Holy Communion remembers Jesus last supper as recorded in the Gospels. The final meal was the celebration of the Jewish Passover or feast of the Unleavened bread.

  8. What Happens Today? During the service all share in the bread and the wine. This is a reminder to Christians of the Last Supper, when Jesus ate with his disciples for the last time, before he was arrested and put to death. Christians share bread and wine as Jesus did with the disciples and through this they feel part of the last supper.

  14. Beliefs about the Eucharist Roman Catholics believe that the Eucharist is so important that they should make an effort to go to church and celebrate it every week. This is called going to MASS. Roman Catholics also believe that Jesus gave up his life for us. This is called a Sacrifice. He was put to death to allow human sin to be forgiven. Roman Catholics believe that by going to Mass every week they: They believe that Jesus meant his words: this is my body, this is my blood literally, therefore, the bread and wine change literally into the body and blood of Christ, although they may look and taste the same. This change is called Transubstantiation and Roman Catholics say that they believe in the Real Presence- that Jesus is really Present in the bread and Wine! *strengthen their relationship with God. *they are united together. *are given inner strength to live according to God s will.
